Hi! I had my son 4yr ago and currently 5mo pregnant with my second. I have scoliosis of my lumbar spine and didn’t find out until my epidural failed during my last c section and had to be sedated (trauma). When they placed the epidural it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced. I don’t think the numbing worked. Has this happened to anyone else? Is epidural off the table now for my second? I think I would just like to be sedated from the start due to the trauma of it. Looking into spinal anesthesia instead ? Any difference in pain between epidural and spinal anesthesia? I am so spiraling bc I don’t want to have a similar experience.

From what I know, the epidural needle is thicker but shorter, and the spinal needle is thinner but longer
For my C-section, they had to do the spinal twice
I’m so sorry to hear about your first experience and I hope this next experience is much smoother for you🫶

Apologise for the long response but I completely understand your fear
I have a degenerative spinal condition also on my lumbar spine and was beyond petrified of what the consequences would be if I needed either, got through three and a half days of labour only nothing but gas and air only for my spine to give out last minute needing to have a c section and therefore one of the two options… this made me spiral and think of the absolute worst picturing raising my child whilst being paralysed from it going wrong😭 my anaesthetist was an absolute angel and really didn’t fancy either option but when there was no other option strongly recommended spinal vs epidural, had it done under stressful conditions (he did slightly struggle to get it in due to damage) but he did, worked beautifully and had absolutely no consequences of having had it so far (4 month pp) the thinner needle with spinal I think is beneficial
