Please tell me I’m not the only one 😩
Today has completely thrown us. My 11-week-old was awake for around 6 hours with hardly any proper nap, despite us trying everything to get her to sleep. She’d yawn, we’d try to settle her, but she just wouldn’t go off. To make it even harder, I think she needed a poo and was bunged up, so her sleep and hunger cues became really confusing.
Our health visitor wasn’t concerned, but I’m finding it so hard to know what to do when she seems exhausted but just won’t sleep.
Has anyone else’s baby had days like this? What worked for you? Did they eventually grow out of it?
I feel like we’ve got it all wrong today. It’s not the first time it’s happened either, so I’d really love to know we’re not alone ❤️
Newborn Trenches
Hey moms. 💙 I’m really at my wits’ end and hoping to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar.
The first couple of weeks honestly weren’t too bad, but now my little guy is 4 weeks old and has become incredibly fussy. He has a lot of gas, and it seems like it’s getting harder for him to work through it. He’s visibly uncomfortable at times, and I give him Mylicon, which seems to help a little.
I also feel like I may have accidentally gotten him overtired. My husband and I have had no luck getting him to sleep in his bassinet. Every time we try, he starts crying, then it takes forever to calm him down and start the whole process over again because he only wants to contact nap right now. Before we know it, it’s time for another feeding, and he’s been awake the whole time. It feels like we’re stuck in this endless cycle.
He’s just so, so fussy. I see friends with these calm babies who go on walks, to restaurants, even on vacations (I wish 😅), and their babies seem so content. Meanwhile, I’m terrified to leave the house because I feel like at any moment my son will wake up crying from being hungry, gassy, or tired.
There are only a few minutes after a feeding where he’s awake, alert, and looking around. My husband and I try to soak up those moments by talking to him, showing him pictures, and interacting with him, but they’re so short-lived before he starts fussing from gas… and then it’s already time to try to get him back to sleep and he won’t go down alone so we have to soother him and contact nap in our arms till the next feed.
It’s been like this for the past week or so, day in and day out. I’ve found myself crying more often. I’m exhausted from the constant crying and fussiness, and then I feel guilty for feeling this way. I also feel so isolated, like everyone else has these easy babies and I’m the only one struggling.
Has anyone else experienced this or am I the one of the few .. ❤️
