Hi moms, I need some advice.
I’m a first-time mom and 9 months pregnant. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I got into an argument over something that honestly didn’t seem like a huge deal to me. During the argument, he said, “I’m just speaking my mind to you—don’t be surprised if I get up one day and leave you.”
Since then, I haven’t been able to get those words out of my head. Today he’s acting nice and everything seems normal, but I can’t stop thinking about what he said. It really hurt me, and now I feel like I’ve lost trust in him completely.
Am I overthinking this because I’m so close to giving birth, or would those words stick with you too? How would you handle this?

I don't think I would be able to get over that either. You are not overthinking.

It honestly sounds like a threat or a really inappropriate reminder of conditional love - you're not overthinking or overreacting. I'm so sorry, that would stick with me too. Approach him about it and if you feel like you can't, that tells you how you feel about the relationship. You got this Momma ❤️ No matter what the baby is coming and you have SO much to look forward to! You deserve someone you trust right there with you!

I dont think youre overreacting. I think you need to take precautions and make sure you hve all your affairs together to where u are not totally dependent on him and … if you are… make sure you have a solid back up plan.

Those words would stick with me too. Now that he's in a better headspace today, I'd ask him why he said that. Was the intention to hurt you? Was the intention to cause doubt in the relationship? I'd need to know.

I had something similar said to me and 2 weeks later my husband left. I have a toddler and am expecting another in 2 months. I recommend getting to the bottom of why he said that because I'd hate for you to go through what I'm going through. It's awful when they say something and don't communicate why and then disappear.

Sounds like emotional manipulation

As difficult as it is to hear, people often disclose exactly where they stand….. we just have to pay attention. If their words don’t provide clarity, their actions eventually will. Statements like that shouldn’t be ignored or minimized. They deserve to be addressed, not excused. After your baby is born, have that conversation. Until then, protect your peace and focus on yourself and your baby🧚♀️.

That would stick with me too. I’d probably address it with him, clarity for you. I hope he doesn’t turn around and say that you’re pregnant and hormonal.

For as many times as my husband and I have gotten upset with each other or had big issues we've overcome never once in our time together has he ever made any kind of threat of leaving me, abandoning us, or suggesting he'd be better off without us or gone. Your boyfriend better have a damn good apology and willingness to never again devolve into that level of communication with you, the mother of his child, in order for you to fully be at peace and stay secure in your relationship. Short of him coming to you and owning up to be responsible for his reckless words, I'd be very cautious with fully trusting him to be the person you thought he was as you navigate future challenges. Hopefully it was a stupid once mistake. Only you know your boyfriend and whether that's the case or you need to be cautious in how you move forward. I'm so sorry, you don't deserve to hear that at any point from your partner especially right now when you really need him.

How he treats you post partum is going to tell you everything you need to know
Does he check in on you?
Actively help with the baby?
Ask how you are?
Do all the housework so you can focus on baby?
If he basically does nothing and expects you to do everything....this is not a good relationship to be in. And he's not committed.
The real danger here isn't that he's created doubt. The issue is, if he has one foot out the door, he is probably going to be a terrible partner because he had no "skin in the game". If he doesn't care whether the relationship continues, he won't have any motivation to keep you happy or meet your needs.
You may need an exit plan (just in case).

Hey but hopefully....he steps up....
