Im at my wits end! Potty training 😩🚽

My little one is 2 and showing every sign he's ready to potty training

* Ripping his nappy off when he's done a wee or poo
* Not needing to go toilet for 2 hours
* Knowing what the potty is for
* Sits on the potty (voluntarily)
... And other signs

HOWEVER!

To actually get him to wee on the potty is proving so hard! He would rather go on the floor and just watch it, no matter how much correction and guidance he's given!

I've resulted to using his favourite teddy and "making" them go for a wee on the potty and putting a pair of big boy pants on the teddy so he can see an example.

This boy is point blank refusing! 😩

He knows what it's for and understands when he's seen his cousins do it, but is being incredibly stubborn.

Not to mention my partner (his dad) has a short fuse and will give up as soon as it comes too hard. So I know as soon as I'm at work, it's back to wearing a nappy all day and not even trying. (I've had multiple conversations with him to make sure we're on the same page, but stubbornness and not having me do most of the work, he won't do it)

I just need some advice and tips on how to make the transition easier on myself and my little one. Any tricks that I can't will be bonus points šŸ˜‚šŸ™šŸ¼

From a desperate mother!

I had very stubborn potty trainers too! And the only thing that worked was rewards of things they loved! Eg mini toy cars/mini dinosaur eggs etc one each time they go and make it a big deal that that’s what they’ll get whenever they use it!

If that STILL doesn’t work then take a break . Is he almost 3 or just turned 2?

Ooohh I see! I would say yes he’s still very little and not to worry then!! If the rewards are having no affect deffo wait a bit! I had to take some breaks to wait to and eventually they really started to care about the rewards 🤣 for me my sons were between 2.5 and 3 where potty training really started to pick up

We had this with my little boy for months, pretty much ticked every box for being ready but when it came to using it he’d gone backwards and didn’t always want to sit and would have accidents.

We then just stopped trying, and just went super casual as he was complaining of sore private parts so I told him we were going nappy free one weekend and I honestly did nothing but he just started using the potty himself and goes every time.

He’s pretty much trained himself and I wish I could say what made it click but something just changed for him.

Only thing I did was kept a potty out in the living room and made sure both bathrooms had something accessible for him to go toilet, then night time I would put the potty in his bedroom.

I know professionals say once they show signs you can do it, but I stressed myself trying different methods and I think that’s why he never clicked with it is he could feel the pressure. X

Try and introduce the potty in a more relaxed and ā€œfunā€ way - does he like sticker books? Encourage him to sit on it for a little while and do some stickers together (or other activity). Don’t focus on the end product but more on the process as a whole. Get him familiar and comfortable with the potty. Once he is regularly spending time on it, you will likely catch something and at that point you can give a lot of positive praise and celebrate (singing and dancing works well).

It can also help to read books about pottying too (not on the potty, just in terms of learning and preparation).

It’s a very daunting thing for them - for over 2 years you’ve told him he’s supposed to soil himself. Potty training is basically undoing all of that, so it is new and scary and takes time.

Re your partner… he will have to get on board with it - it’s part of parenting and he can’t just ā€œsit it outā€ because it’s too hard.

Good luck ā¤ļø

Why can I not do basic things I need to do

I'm really embarrassed to admit it but at the moment I'm only showering maybe once or twice a week. I can't bring myself to brush my hair, so that only gets done maybe once a week, and I can only make myself brush my teeth at night before bed, but it's a massive mental struggle. I barely drink water, I barely leave the house, I just feel so burnt out. Any time I get a free moment that I could use to do these things, I end up just sleeping or trying to catch up on housework instead. I just feel like the overall running of the house is more important than me showering or getting myself clean and tidy. I have 2 children, one is 3 and the other is 10 weeks old. I don't even have the reasoning of breastfeeding because I'm not doing that anymore, so baby is on formula bottles in a pretty predictable schedule, so I always know when she'll be down for a nap after a feed. But it's like I just get paralysed by all the things I need to do in the house, or trying to squeeze in time with my 3yo, that my own self care just isn't a priority. It's not even on the list anymore. I'm so tired and feel like I can't stand the look of myself at the moment either, which I know is common postpartum. I just hate my weight, I hate how long and scraggly my hair is, I hate my nails growing uneven, I hate my hair legs and armpits but shaving is another chore I cannot face. I just feel fed up.

But after saying all that, my kids are well looked after, I bathe them every other day, brush teeth morning and night, nails trimmed etc. It just feels like that's my priority right now and my own self care is a massive chore.

Please don't judge I know some people will have something horrible to say

Should I stay or should I go?

I’m half way in and half way out of my marriage at this point. I do not feel like I have a genuine partner. He gets defensive over things so easily, can never take accountability, and has issues with my family. The drama is endless with him. He was previously arrested (all charges dropped and erased from his record), he attempted to fight my father, he’s a full blown alcoholic but refuses to get help, the list goes on. I would love to leave but i’m terrified of being forced to share custody of our two small children. We have a 3-year-old daughter and 3-month-old son. My husband works a ton of hours to the point I sometimes go days without seeing him, sometimes even a full week. His schedule is all over the place but he makes very good money so I handle home life. If I do leave…what are the odds of him getting any custody if there’s proof of his drinking including while driving? I worry about their safety, and me staying at least guarantees they’re safe cause i’m always present. Help. I’m in NJ if that helps at all. Also ask any questions, i’ll give further info just didn’t want this to be super long.

Baby still not eating

Is anyone else's baby still not eating solids? My baby is 9 months old tomorrow and eats hardly anything. When he does, he gets fed up after a couple of tiny spoonfuls and refuses to eat any more. He seems to hate spoons so we're trying to give finger foods so he can feed himself but most goes on the floor. We are nowhere near 3 meals a day and I feel like we've failed him. My older child ate everything from 6 months old so didn't expect to be struggling this much. I'm absolutely hating weaning and dreading meal times so any help or advice is appreciated!

I'm so stressed. / VENTING!!

I have a baby that I take care of all by myself. I do have a partner, but at times all he will mainly do is just watch her. I'm the only one who actually you know takes care of her and sometimes it gets to me. And I have talked to him about it like a couple times, I'm like I need help. We both need to do things but in the end it ends with me taking care of her by myself like usual at this point I just accepted it it doesn't matter anymore but I'm just like to the point where I'm just done. Sometimes I just feel like crying, and I don't drink but I want to just drink. I just want to freaking like I don't know feel better but right now I'm just upset and stressed. I want to go outside and do things but I don't have my driver's license or permit because I'm lazy and can't do anything so I rely on my partner for that a lot. My baby is on oxygen and that is one of my main stressers. I feel like I'm not able to help her in that way like I just want someone to do it for me basically I want her off oxygen I want to be able to you know just not worry about it but I do all the time and I hate it. She spits up all the time to the point she can't breathe and that scares me so bad that I want to put her back in the NICU. because I'm scared. But I also just want her with me at all times too, so I feel bad for thinking that way. I'm struggling right now and I don't know how to get help.

Eating solids help!!

How do I get my baby to stop screaming & crying when it’s time to eat?? We give her half her bottle then her purees then the other half of her bottle. Once we take the bottle to give her the purĆ©es she screams & cries & this goes on for 20+ minutes every single time. Because of the screaming & crying, she’s constantly choking on her food, to the point she’ll vomit sometimes. Not every time, but it’s happened a handful of times. She does this with every single food, even the ones she likes. She’s 7 months today & this has been going on for about a month or longer. If we try to give her the purĆ©es before her bottle, she won’t eat them & will just scream & cry for her bottle. If we try to give them after she finishes her bottle, she’s too full & will refuse to eat the purĆ©es. We try to soothe her & calm her down but nothing works. If she eventually calms down, we’ll give her a bite or 2 of purĆ©es & it’s back to screaming & crying. Which leads to choking & sometimes vomiting. The only way she fully calms down is when we give her the bottle back. I don’t know what else to do?? Someone please help!
