Context: SAHM with 2 special needs children. Husband works hundreds of hours per week and averages 4 hours of sleep, so I do 100% of the parenting, household work, and garden maintenance. Having said that, both kids will be at the same school this year and can do before and aftercare there, allowing me to work.
Job A: 1:1 RN for medically complex child who needs me to attend school with them, follows my children’s school schedules, summers off, etc. $44/hr FT, provides consistent work but forces me to delegate some of the household stuff like cleaning and yard, also difficult if children are sick as I have no support or backup and would have to call out
Job B: contract WFH AI research job, 20 hrs/ week, $75/hr, could end though at anytime though (1-6 months)
Help?!?!🤪

Ugh this is tough! I completely can relate to having a husband whose job hours are insane and unpredictable! So you guys do not have anyone trusted to care for your kids if you were to need to call out? No family correct?

Since your husband has been the provider, this job would just be disposable income yes? If so I would pick the job that best suits your lifestyle which sounds like option b. If it ends anytime, you don’t need the income per se, and can find another job. If you take option a, finding childcare when you need it is hard. Ideally you don’t want to have to do before and after care too, imo.

I have an sen child who is too unpredictable to work during the day due to phone calls from school, issues with transport ect. I work evenings at the weekend. I’d probably go for the online research.

The only thought that has come to mind regarding job A is that it revolves caring for a child and so you don't really get a break from care giving.
But I am commenting from my POV, as this is something that would burn me out. Work is my break away 😅
