I’m so upset. I feel like I have failed as a parent. Does anybody else have a child that they can’t control? I just received a call from my son’s camp saying he was running around screaming the F word then jumped on top of a kid and grabbed their private parts. I don’t know what to do. I talked to my mom about it and she seems to think it is my fault that I let him get away with things when he was younger. My husband and I often talk to him about his behavior but it doesn’t seem to be working. Does anybody have any suggestions?

You need to be stern and let him know that certain words/actions are inappropriate and correct them every single time. Does he have any older siblings or family members that are teaching him those behaviors?

Enforce boundaries and consequences eventually He will put it together and realize that acting appropriate gets him positive reinforcement/attention whereas bad behavior gets none

Hi mama. First, please give yourself some grace. One really hard day doesn’t define you or your son, and it certainly doesn’t mean you’ve failed as a parent. Four year olds are still learning impulse control, emotional regulation, and boundaries, but some behaviors do need a closer look, especially if they’re happening repeatedly or are becoming more aggressive.
I would start by having a calm conversation with his pediatrician. They can help rule out developmental, behavioral, or emotional concerns and point you toward resources if needed. It may also be helpful to ask his camp if they’ve noticed any triggers or patterns leading up to these behaviors so you can better understand what’s going on.
Consistent boundaries, clear consequences, lots of positive reinforcement for good choices, and making sure everyone caring for him is responding the same way can make a big difference over time.
Most importantly, don’t let anyone convince you this means you’re a bad mom.

My 4 year old was the same way earlier this year but it just takes a lot of reinforcement and redirecting to better behavior

I’m sorry that you’re going through that but I think that’s a serious huge isssue. I would be very upset if someone grabbed my son’s private part and jumped on him. Has he done anything like that before ? Does he go to a daycare or school , maybe you can ask the adults and also ask your son if anyone has done that to him because it must come from somewhere.

I’m in the same boat idk if I should even enroll him into pre-k due to his behavior I also feel like I failed as a mom my son screams, hits , and laughs at me while trying to discipline him my bf has told me it’s because I never disciplined the correct way and should’ve been more firm with him now I’m suffering the consequences he is level 2 autistic but he still understands because when my bf tells him not to do something he listens… it’s very hard

I’m so sorry, this so difficult as a Mom. I have 4 kids and my 8 yo was highly impulsive at 4 yo. He was diagnosed with ADHD (severe). He is a very bright kid as many are with ADHD but he would do very impulsive things (still does when he is meds wear off). Regular consequences did not work for him bad his impulsiveness was so high. I do think talking to his pediatrician would be a good idea and see if an evaluation with a behavioral psychologist would be helpful. They can help you understand his behavior better whether he has a diagnosis like ADHD or not. Does he seem like he is driven my an “internal motor”? Does he want to touch lots of things wherever he goes?

It's not too late! Check out the book "How to Talk So Little Kids will Listen."
If you talk to him and then send him back right away, he will learn nothing. He needs to have a logical consequence that is directly related to what he did.
I like having kids make 4-part apologies to each person their actions affect. You could help scribe his 4-part apology in a note (he tells you what he wants to say, then you write it). He needs to actually give the apologies to people.
If he refuses? Guess he's not going to camp and will spend the time doing something boring instead (NOT TV or games). He can go back to camp when he can tell you how he's supposed to behave. Pick him up as soon as he is misbehaving again... Tell counselors (in front of him) to call you if he misbehaves then follow through with picking him up.
