Advice
Hi everyone,
I’m just looking for some advice or to hear from other parents who have been through something similar.
My little boy has just turned 2. He babbles a lot but isn’t saying any words yet. He responds to his name most of the time at home, gives good eye contact with me, and can follow some simple instructions. However, he doesn’t really play with toys in the typical way and often just carries one around.
I really struggle taking him out to places like the park, the farm or soft play. He doesn’t seem interested in the activities like other children are and would much rather push his pram around. Today I noticed he didn’t really seem interested in the other children either. They were running around and playing together, but he just wanted to do his own thing. I often come home feeling upset because I see other children enjoying everything while he doesn’t seem interested. Lately I’ve been feeling really overwhelmed, and sometimes I wonder if there’s any point in taking him out because he never seems to enjoy it.
He gets frustrated quite easily, especially with toys like shape sorters, even though I’ve shown him lots of times how to use them. Recently he’s also started putting his fingers in his ears even when there’s no loud noise.
We’re already under Speech and Language Therapy and are waiting for our next appointment, but I’d really appreciate hearing from parents who’ve experienced something similar. Did your child go on to talk? Did they become more interested in other children and activities as they got older? What helped?
Thank you ❤️
Missing my old active self
Hi everyone! I’m a mum to a 2-month-old baby boy. Before having him, I used to go to the gym at least four times a week or go for long walks. Right now, I feel like I can’t do anything. Because I’m breastfeeding, even going for a walk feels like a huge deal—I never know when he’s going to cry for food. I also can’t go to the gym because I moved here from Italy 12 years ago, and with my family over there, I have very little support nearby (my partner’s family helps a bit, but it's limited).
I spend most of my days sitting on the sofa, watching sunny days go by. I feel emotionally drained and really bad about myself, but I just don’t know what to do to start feeling better. To top it off, my baby will only sleep on me—if I try to put him in his carrycot, he lasts a few minutes before screaming again. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Do you have any tips?
Please be honest
My husband’s friends wife came to visit when baby was newborn and was very over the top. I know people have this urge to hold newborns, but most people that visited just held him very carefully and barely moved. This friend was getting up and down, moving him in different positions, handing him to someone else. The second time she came she was stroking his tummy to relieve trapped wind, doing bicycle legs, lifting him up and down, winding him and was basically as confident as if she was the mum. Baby didn’t care, I was nearly crying.
Was I being silly? Honestly?
Husband thinks I was but it made me feel so strange and stressed. I’ve only seen her once since but she kept offering to come and ‘look after’ our baby. I said I didn’t need anyone else to look after him.
Should I have said- please can you hold him still, as it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable that you’re so confident moving him around so much?’
I just wonder if I should say something next time we see her or just let her do what she wants? Or when we have another baby. Seeing her at the weekend so I’ve been thinking about it again 😑
