Husband bought us tickets to see a movie and get lunch with some other family members. He enlisted his mom (she’s 75) to watch our very active/fast 12 month old. He says she needs the challenge/activity and can handle it, but admittedly I’m nervous. She’s pretty much our only unpaid option for childcare and she’s managed him for a couple of hours on her own and once for 6 hours when he was younger/not quite crawling yet.
We’ve been to one movie since my son was born and honestly 4-6 hours without a baby sounds great but part of me is tempted to just stay with my son so I don’t have to be worried 🫠 am i just being paranoid? I’m worried she can’t keep up,

Maybe pay for them to go to an indoor playground type business? So it’s childproof, padded and whatnot. We have a “little play hut” by us and that would be the perfect option in this scenario for me. In your house is fine too I’m sure, but my 14 month old is a runner and crazy but we haven’t yet baby proofed everything because he hasn’t gotten that curious with it yet. If you don’t do that idea, you could always have a new toy or activity to help “distract” and keep them more contained. If it’s lunch, maybe they’ll take a nap? I totally don’t blame you for being nervous though!

You're not being paranoid. I wouldn't be comfortable with this level of risk, unless she's a super active 75 year old. I'd be doing a test run, having her over for a few hours to watch the baby while you're still around/in the house, see how that goes and then you'll know if 6 hours is a good idea for her.

Not paranoid at all! Also yes it will definitely help if they are super active! My mom is 75 and as soon as I had to go back to work she was there! I mean granted she’s MY mom & not MIL so difference there! But my mom loves having her. I face time them have cameras everywhere! Once the trust is there it will be a lot more comfortable

Why don’t you just do the movie and then come back and do the dinner another time so it’s shorter

Could you not do the movie after his bedtime? Then she's literally just sitting in the house while he sleeps?
