Toilet training

Looking for some advice and reassurance from anyone who’s been through this.

I’ve attempted toilet training before, but after a few accidents my little girl got really upset, so I stopped because I didn’t want to distress her. I decided to take the “she’ll tell me when she’s ready” approach.

Since then, she’s started telling me when she’s done a poo. If she doesn’t say it verbally, she’ll put her hand in her nappy, so I thought she might be becoming more aware and ready to try again.

I’ve got the potty back out and tried making it exciting, but she has a complete meltdown, says “no” and won’t go anywhere near it. I’ve tried a standard potty, one that looks like a little toilet, and a toilet seat with steps, but it’s the same with all three.

She’s starting full-time nursery at a school in September, and ideally they’d like the children to be toilet trained, so I’m starting to feel really stressed and under pressure.

I personally don’t think she’s quite ready, but I also don’t know if this is just a normal part of potty training that we need to work through.

Has anyone else’s little one been like this? Did you wait, or did you persevere? Any tips or experiences would be really appreciated 🩷

My youngest had a strong association with poos and nappies, he was potty trained for pees by 2 but would ask for a nappy when he needed a poo until he was 3. We would immediately get the poo nappy off once he was done and flush it down the loo together build the association with the loo. He loved to press the flush and wave goodbye his poo 😂 With him he had a bad experience with the loo so preferred the potty, if your LO doesn't like the potty could you try getting a fun toilet seat and stool so she can use the toilet instead?

Following because we have the exact same issue. We tried with some success for a few days then she just grew increasingly resistant with extreme meltdowns so we stopped. She tells us when she does some wees and when she does some poos but trying to do them on the potty is apparently like the world is ending for her. Whether it be a small floor level potty or the steps up to the normal toilet. Not sure what to do next, only thing we haven’t tried yet is a reward system which I think I’ll be doing.

She's more than ready! I recommend you read (and follow) the "Oh crap!" training manual. It's going to be a breeze.

Shes ready, they will always kick up some amount of fuss when changing the status quo.
You just have to be more 'stubborn' than them.
Dedicate a week to it, accidents will make them upset/uncomfortable and thats where the most learning will flourish!

We found reading together books at bedtime (I want my potty, princes Polly potty). You can also get heat activated stickers from Amazon that go inside the potty and reveal an animal when in contact with warm pee - my daughter liked the bunny one and we would sing 'hop little bunny' each time it appeared. Will she sit on the potty with clothes on just practicing?

We tried 6 months ago with my boy and again this week and it was hands down easier this time.

He’s very very stubborn and hates being told what to do so we don’t keep nagging to go for a wee. We went bare bum for a few days to learn his cues and then just remind him ‘you look like you need to wee, the potty is there if you need’. Half the time he takes himself half the time he needs a reminder but constantly saying sit and try made him point blank refuse to even try x

Another vote for the oh crap method. My daughter’s been potty trained for months and showed no signs of being ready

How is it for a 15 month old? Are there lots of rides for her to go on? We’re thinking of taking her there tomorrow ☺️

Toddler nonstop complaining

Sat here crying because ive had to resort to putting on Teletubbies AGAIN just so we can have some relief. My (non verbal) little boy will be 2 this month. He seems to be in a phase where he is just angry all day and high pitched whinging and screaming especially when his daddy stops playing with him because he needs to like...have a pee...have a shower...etc! He only wants his daddy half the time I guess because im more like...go play i need to wash up...
Today daddy went for a shower and I offered little man a yogurt that he wanted but no. He only wanted daddy to give it to him and started having a meltdown that he was in the shower. We all need a break...im trying to recover from a bit of a breakdown after being made redundant. I desperately need some quiet at home and some serenity....i just start crying instantly when I am bombarded with crying now. And I know I need to toughen up somehow
If anyone has any suggestions I would love to know. We've started trying to be tougher with him and tell him to stop whinging and angry squeaking but so far it doesn't work.

Life has been so hard.

My husband and I haven’t been getting along well. He slammed the door and probably woke up our 3 year old. I feel like we’re heading towards toxicity or divorce at this point. Idk. Im sure tomorrow will be better but its just so hard in the moment. My 3 year old likes to push my buttons all day and I have an 11mo that barely sleeps. She is still nursing every 2hours at night. I feel like im drained, stressed and worn out. I love my family but im constantly overwhelmed. I also hate my body postpartum. I bounced back the first time but this time not so much. Im the most ive ever weighed. I hate shopping all the sudden bc i just look like a blob. Sorry for ranting. I don’t know what to do anymore. Its just the same every day and i try to push through but life is tearing me down.

Vent Sesh

Is it just me or am I the a**hole because I left a man who wasn’t doing anything for me, our daughter or his other 2 children (from different relationships)? Like he was in and out of jail for the last 2 years, no job, and all he did was stay at his dad’s house and do yard work. I went to school, worked full time and took care of OUR child!! He didn’t call to check on her or see how she had been. He was only ever worried about when we would have sex again. Yet, I am in the wrong because I broke his heart because I was exhausted and fell out of love with him and his needy co-dependent self 🙄

What best thing to give baby for breakfasts?

I know they say baby rice is no good, so what else are we giving? I heard ready break is okay but does that have high sugar content?

I just need to get this out

So previously about 2 months ago my child’s father was cheating on me for about I think 3 months and now I just don’t know how to feel anymore it’s like I don’t know how I feel I’ve been going to therapy just started actually but I don’t know if I want to stay because my dad told me it is up to me but another man probably is going to do the same thing and I don’t want to leave and start completely over and end up going through the same thing then when I’m around my child father I completely forget about what just happened 2 months ago but nothing has changed we still constantly argue we have good days sometimes but he doesn’t show any emotions but when I do decide to leave he just showers me with love
