My OB just told me that they start family leave 4 weeks before scheduled delivery and that it’s only 12 weeks. Is this correct? My current job is also 1099 that i started in the summer but i worked w2 within the 12 months so i know i still qualify! I’m already struggling to work 2
months before delivery

Technically yes. 4 weeks before delivery. Your doctor can take you out whenever tho if necessary. My doctor took me out 8 weeks before delivery. I have severe carpool tunnel tho. So 4 weeks before delivery. 6 weeks after if natural birth or 8 weeks if c section. Then 8 weeks bonding.

If you are struggling tell your doctor. He may take you out early!! Definitely possible for sure.

Can they put you on medical leave ?

Im sure others will add to this but here’s the rundown.
Pregnancy disability- 4 weeks before delivery. Continues until you deliver baby. My baby was 6 days past DD. 6-8 weeks postpartum based on c-section vs. vaginal delivery. You get 6 for vaginal, 8 for c-section.
Based on your 6/8 week post partum OB appointment, your Dr can state if you’re cleared or not.
Pregnancy disability can continue as long as your OB states you are not cleared for work. Due to post partum anxiety/ PPD, physical recovery ect as needed. I got an extra 6 weeks due to PP anxiety.
After you’re cleared, THEN your 12 weeks of baby bonding ( PFL) start
8 weeks paid, 4 weeks unpaid.
It’s very important that you advocate for yourself whether you feel you are recovered post partum and are done with disability. YOU tell your OB that you aren’t ready to be cleared should that be the case. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Dont use baby bonding for pregnancy recovery. Start it after you’re cleared for work.

Unfortunately this is very correct. I was struggling to work before bc I had severe morning sickness & was told I couldn’t be put on leave before that bc they’re very strict on the terms & severe morning sickness wasn’t “enough”

I’m pretty sure you can start your leave whenever you want. But if you start your leave before delivery it means less time with your baby. Because leave is normally only 12 weeks and a little bit more along with convalescent leave unless you have more paid leave left over

Yep. That’s all correct. I took the 4 weeks prior. Glad I did cause I had to go for monitoring 2-3 times a week.
