Marriage after having a child

A rant.
So I've always heard of couples fighting more after having kids, and how having kids change you and I thought, well my husband and I have already gone through so much how different can it be? We always managed to resolve our conflicts. But since having my first daughter my perspective on our whole relationship has changed.

He's not a bad person, he can be very caring and Id say hes a good father, especially comparing to some of the horror stories I read. He loves our daughter very much.

But our relationship has suffered greatly. For more context too, our daughter was conceived through ivf because my husband struggles with low T and low sperm count. So our sex life is practically non existent. In the past 2 years we only did it once to induce labor and it was so clinical.

Theres also no intimacy. No kissing other than a quick peck. No time to cuddle or hold hands. Our conversation is mostly about our daughter, our families or his work. I honestly havent really been in the mood either, at least not to be intimate with him. He acts more like a roomate than a husband. He doesnt look at me like hes attracted to me. He doesnt do anything in a flirty way, literally nothing about our marriage lately has any chemistry.

But I dont see myself with anyone else or even outside of this marriage. I just wish things were different. When we argue he becomes a jerk. Gaslighting. Stonewalling. Rude. I can cry and he will walk away and sleep easy. It sucks because on our good days we used to have deep conversations and I used to feel great around him. Now im mostly always annoyed with his shortcomings. Not to mention he is 43 and still needs to be reminded to take out the trash or break down boxes or given lists etc. Ya Im an overfunctioning wife and Im tired to being the manager.

Honestly after having a kid so much that I used to tolerate I just cant stand anymore. Hes 8 years older than me but sometimes I feel like Im the older one. And with the complete lack of intimacy I just mostly feel annoyed. Honestly idk what to do anymore. I quit my job to raise our daughter and have 0 money. I have no family to help me. I don't want to lose my current house and I honestly wish my relationship would just get better but we tried therapy, i tried expressing how i feel and he says he understands but then nothing changes. Im just burnt out.

Hey I'm so sorry you're feeling this way and that nothing has helped so far šŸ–¤

Maybe you need to have a talk about prioritizing your relationship again so you can both re-find what made you fall in love in the first place. Like having date nights out or date nights in set up weekly or monthly so you have one on one time again outside of being a parent. Once you get that time alone, while it may feel awkward at first, it may be easier to find your connection again and let the love back in. Also while reminding them to do their chores sucks and this shouldn't be your responsibility, maybe you can help him set up calendar alerts for things like trash and stuff so you don't have to remind him about the regular duties.

I'm wishing you the best with this šŸ–¤ I've heard the roommate and resent stage is very common after babies and that it can be hard to work through, but that's why you actively have to choose love and choose to prioritize your partner to make it through.

Today was hard

I got to see my big boy on video but the ending was the rough part because he didn't wanna get off the phone . He misses me and I miss him . I broke down after we got off the phone and I'm sure he did too. I love you my big boy.

My son’s father wants to have a ā€œtalkā€. I don’t want to . I don’t want to hear him . I’m actually in this stage where I don’t feel nothing for him . Everything I felt before I finally decided to get away from him , is still there . I know that he might want to get back together I do miss the feeling of sleeping with someone & cooking for someone but I don’t miss providing for someone other than my child . That’s when messed up . I feel like he only wants to be a family because he knows I held it down . I did everything. I hate being used . I hate feeling like the last option . This man put me through so much I don’t even want to look at him anymore . I feel bad bc my son always ask about him coming to move with us but he don’t get the pain he caused me . I felt like a different person . I hated myself actually . To think that I would want a family when in reality I know that he only wants to come back because he can’t do it alone is unfair and heartbreaking to me . I don’t have feelings for him but I do care that he isn’t in a stable place or environment. I just feel like shit . I hate my life right now

Missing out?

My 3.5 year old toddler doesn’t watch any kids shows on TV. Other children seem interested in TV show characters and enjoy incorporating them in their play. Sometimes other toddlers try to play/ talk about these with him and he doesn’t engage well due to the unfamiliarity. Even his nursery have done activities based around TV characters/shows. Is he missing out because we do not give him access to these? Should I introduce them?

He does have limited some screen time but these do not include watching TV shows with characters. I really wanted to have limited screen time for as long as possible.

Behaviour question ?

So back story we are friends with my child’s nursery key worker. My child has always been very very high needs since she was born and now she’s 3 it’s honestly just relentless. Our friend said they all thought she could have ADHD but it’s not like they’ve actually formally mentioned anything.

The other day they asked if I could take her to get her hearing tested as she says ā€˜what’ a lot and basically doesn’t listen to instructions and talks sooo loudly all the time. Obvs I know this can be typical behaviour. Is it worth mentioning that nursery mentioned ADHD at the dr appointment? As it was off guard I’m not sure what to do with this info?
The other thing is that nursery is a bit of a free for all and not sure if this is learnt behaviour? She’s always having fights with this lad that picks on her even though she says she’s friends with him. She never says anyone gets told off.

She starts a new pre school soon and they said they will give every new child an assessment to see if they have any extra needs so not sure if to wait till then and see how she gets on? Could just be environment?

There’s obviously a lot more of her behaviour that I haven’t mentioned but it’s a LOT. I feel quite lonely and sad because it is very hard work.

Calling all mamas who have travelled with a 4 month old… I need your advice! āœˆļøšŸ’›

We’re taking our little girl abroad for the first time soon, and I’d love to hear all your tips and tricks!

What are your absolute must pack items? Is there anything you took that ended up being a lifesaver (or something you wish you’d packed)?

I’d also love any advice for getting through the airport:
āœˆļø Is a baby carrier easier than the pushchair?
šŸ¼ Any tips for security, boarding or feeding on take-off and landing?
🧳 What did you keep in your hand luggage?

And how did you keep your 4-month-old happy on the plane? Did they sleep most of the flight, or were there any toys or activities that kept them entertained?

Please share anything you wish someone had told you before your first trip with a baby! All advice is welcomešŸ¤
