My baby boy turns 7 weeks old tomorrow. He was 4 kg-8 lbs 13 oz when he was born and he’s already over 6.8 kg (15 lbs)!
I started with expressed breast milk but for the last couple of weeks I’ve been breastfeeding.
I’m super worried he’s gaining weight way too fast. My midwife, doctor, and hv all told me it’s totally normal for a breastfed (expressed or not) baby, but I’m still anxious about it.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? I constantly have this fear that I'm doing something wrong and overfeeding him.

Hi new mum with lots of anxiety as well about feeding, i do believe it is normal for your boy to gain weight fast as you are breastfeeding.
You are doing an amazing job 👏
I firmly believe an over fed baby is better than an under fed one ☺️

Hi, I was told you can't overfeed a breastfed baby. Mine is 8wks and is EBF. He has jumped up a percentile re his weight. HV and co are all happy with his weight and more importantly he seems happy/content. He was 7lb 4ounces at birth, jumped up to 10 pound 5 ounces when he was weighed at 6 wks old.

I've just looked at the weight charts in the red book and although he has moved up centiles, it isn't an excessive amount so I really wouldn't worry. Have you measured his length recently? May have changed centiles on that chart too in which case his growth is all in proportion.
My first born son gained weight quite quickly too when he was a baby, but he was always long with it. He's 9 now and about as wide as a rake 🙈😂 can't keep the weight on him because he's so active all the time.

My baby weighed 6lb 6 oz when she was born. At her first weigh in, she only lost 5g which was 0.01% of her weight and we were told you should expect baby to lose up to 8% of her birth weight. She was solely BF in the beginning. At her next weigh in she was over 7lb and has been putting on weight quite rapidly. She’s now 7 weeks and was last weighed at 6 weeks and weighed 9lb 6oz.
I wouldn’t worry that your baby is gaining weight rapidly at all, we take it as a good sign, means both mamma and baby are doing well! (That’s what we say at home) x

I hear you. My son is also breastfed and also putting on weight very quickly and his brother was the same. You really can’t over feed a breastfed baby and it all sorts itself out when they get bigger. My older one was 12kg at 10 months and we started to panic about him outgrowing his infant car seat (13kg limit). He’s 2 and a half and he’s still not 13kg!! It’s a very normal and well recognised pattern for bf kids and I’ve found the health visitors etc very reassuring along the way. Every feeding journey is different but if you can find a way to allow yourself to feel proud for feeding and growing your baby then please do because this is amazing and exactly the definition of a baby thriving!
