This happens every time I try to talk to him about his parenting. He doesn’t lead our household he leaves all parenting to me. Our 5 year old daughter’s behavior has been bad and I keep telling him that she won’t learn to act better until he steps it up. She’s disrespectful and I get that a lot of 5 year olds go thru this but it’s just so irritating being a 2 parent household but 1 parent refuses to teach our kids the right things.

By “popped” do you mean hitting?

Your feelings are valid. It sounds less like the child is the problem and more like you and your partner need to be united and consistent with parenting.

Are you suggesting he needs to spank her too in response to her “bad” behavior?

Hmm this is a bit hard to follow. And this convo with him needs to be in person. Maybe ask him what his parenting strategies would be when she is naughty? Maybe he is not on the same page because he doesnt agree with you, theres probably a middle ground. Time out, time in, taking away a fav toy or tv show for a day. Agree on it together and then do it together, but if youre saying he needs to do it all one way, your way, thats also not united.
But yeah 5 year olds are disrespectful, its really hard.

I don't believe in "popping". It's ineffective(as you have found), cruel, and unnecessary. That aside, it sounds to me like the two of you should sit down and try to get on the same page. It's no good you telling him you can't teach her that her actions aren't ok because you're the mum not the dad, and saying you want her raised how you were raised and that's that. It is fair to discuss, as a team, what parenting style you both want, how to approach different situations etc. You can't just decide exactly how you want her raised and then complain that he's not doing exactly that and say he's the sole reason she's not behaving. It needs to be teamwork. There's nothing he can do that you can't, but if one parent undermines the other then it can undo the work the first has put in so yes you do both need to work together. If you are talking together and agreeing on things and he's not doing them then yes I would agree that is irritating.

Children act out when they don't get any praise for good behaviour, if they only attention they get is reprimanded for acting out then guess what they're going to do?
You two need to sit down, in person, and discuss how you're going to move forward and please let it involve stopping hitting your child!

Don’t hit your child. Really not ok
