Grandparents…

My boyfriend’s parents want to have my baby today but I’m just not ready for her to be away from us for that long. I’ve let them take her for a couple of hours after them pressuring me and I was so upset the whole time because I didn’t want to be away from her. I’ve offered for them to come over whenever they like to see the baby and I’ve made the effort to take her round to their house.

Since I had her, I’ve felt quite pressured by them to let them have her for sleepovers and take her for whole days, and now his mum has said she feels like i don’t trust them and that she’ll end up resenting me for not letting them have her.

Would you say I’m being unreasonable, or is it normal to struggle with letting grandparents have your baby on their own? I’m really upset about the whole situation xx

How old is your baby?
Neither of mine were without me until they were a year old (I wasn’t even breastfeeding). And even then, it was only with my own mum who came round every week so knew their routine.

They’ve never seen my MIL without me or husband there, but she doesn’t show a lot of interest generally.

I wouldn’t be letting anyone take my baby for extended periods if I didn’t want them to and certainly not if they didn’t already spend long amounts of time with them and knew their routine etc.
I don’t think you’re being unreasonable at all.

You're not being unreasonable at all. She's your baby and you shouldn't be made to feel under pressure to let them have her. Do what feels right for you and don't feel bad about it at all. My girl is also 3 months and there's no way I'd be letting her stay over night or have full days or even hours away from me yet because I'm not ready or comfortable yet. Keep offering what you feel comfortable with and they will have to accept that and should respect your feelings. 💜💜

Wow they sounds awful. It's completely normal to not want to be away from your baby and they need to accept that, never do anything until you are ready!

I wouldnt even let own mother watch my girl for a couple hours without till I had to go back to work in person at 4 months old. I barely let my husband have her without me. His mother still hasnt had our daughter for more then a couple hours alone and my girl is 2.5 years old now.
Your MIL can resent you all she wants thats emotionally manipulative for her to say/threaten that.
At the end of tye day shes your baby, not theirs. You do not owe them time.

My son is now 7 and I still don’t really let people have him. Certainly no overnight sleepovers. And I have battled my MIL time and time again and her comments of ‘you don’t trust me’. Nope and idc because I owe people NOTHING when it comes to my child, and I owe my child EVERYTHING to protect and raise them how I see fit. Nobody is guaranteed access to your child. No apologies or justification necessary x

You are absolutely not being unreasonable! Do not let them force you into something you do not want to do.

They should respect your wishes and boundaries and if they don't then I'd be telling them where to stuff it.

There is no reason for them to have your baby at such a young age on their own. If they are seeing them regularly anyway then there's no issues.

You're mum, it's on your terms

Not unreasonable at all. The thing you’re feeling is the natural instinct of ANY mammal towards its baby, and there is a reason for that- you don’t need to fight it. You’ve offered reasonable compromises- they simply have to accept those. 3 months is VERY young.

How honest have you been about your feelings? I found with some folks in my life that a lot of the pressure was well intentioned - they wanted to give me a break, and instill confidence- but when I stopped making excuses and instead just told them ‘I’m not ready, that is how it is’, they were way more respectful of my needs. I was ready, around 18 months.

Her saying she’ll end up resenting you for it is a form of manipulation. If it were me, I would not want anyone like that around my child.

Sounds like my FMIL she even got a next to me for sleepovers. Told her there is no way in hell would my baby be staying over that young. Stand up to them and don't let them off with their shit. Its your baby, you get to decide what happens. They can go on about trust and simply tell them it's not about that but if they keep on pushing they will lose all contact altogether x

girl did you just say she’s 3 months?! unless you really need them to look after her for a few hours there’s no reason your baby shouldn’t be/sleeping with you. she’s so tiny what do you mean sleepover!? so no, you’re not being unreasonable. it’s sweet that they want to have her and that way you can get a break but maybe when she’s 1+ year old! so sorry you’re going through this x

They can go do one in my opinion, you only gave birth a few months ago and it's entirely reasonable to not want to let baby out of your sight. I would mention to partner and health visitor because this is your baby that you brought into this world and no one else's and everyone else needs to understand that and back off

That’s YOUR baby, no one should be able to pressure you into anything YOU don’t want. You are her advocate

Grandparents said they aren’t willing to have my son overnight?

Both sets of grandparents are involved in my son’s life, they see him once a week, but when the topic is bought up about a potential sleepover they both are very dismissive. I know this is in their right, but I don’t understand why as they seem to both love my son so much and want to spend time with him.
My grandparents basically raised me how much I was there growing up, some nights I’d sleep over for 3 days, and my husband was the same.
Whenever I look online to see if anyone can relate, I only find people who’s parents are pretty much not involved at all, or people who are complaining their parents WANT the kids to sleepover and they refuse to allow it.
For reference both grandparents work part time (2 days a week) and are in their late 50s. People in my life have often asked me if my son sleeps over at the grandparents and when I say no they always act bewildered as to why. When we ask them why they’re very dismissive. When my son was a baby it was “not until he’s stopped needing milk”, then it was “not until he’s sleeping completely though the night”, now he is doing that it’s “not until he no longer has to wear nappies”.

Is anyone in a similar situation? My son is 2 and a half.

Husbands jealous/narcissist outburst

Is it even possible for a partner to think you’re “in love” with your own and only sibling because we are genuinely really close? Ever since we started dating my now husband has always complained of how close I am with my brother that today he accused me of “being in love” with my brother. To me that was the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. My father has a family business. Since we were little my father has had this business and now as adults me 35 and my brother 31 are mostly running it. To make things short my brother and I now run the business. Well, to my husband not only am I in love with my brother but what’s more important to me “allegedly” is spending time with family then my own husband and son. At this point I can only see a narcissist speaking to me. Not my husband nor my sons father but a narcissist. It’s hard to love a person this way. The only way this seems to work is me not speaking t my brother so my husband doesn’t see my brother as a threat. Just typing this makes me sick thinking it’s actually happening. Oh and keep in mind my brother and I grew up together in the business.

Any thoughts/advice?

Feeling Unseen

I guess I’m just looking for some solidarity and to feel seen.

I’m staying with my boyfriends family for the week and it started off fine although my 14 week old isn’t sleeping great here and I’m up with her 3-5 times a night. EBF so I have to do all night feeds as. she screams if we try to give her a bottle at night.

Yesterday his family planned a day out for us including a walk and feeding ducks by a lake. I asked if I could take the buggy and they said yes it’s all tarmac so I thought oh sounds great.

Once we were walking I realised that maybe it wasn’t so short but his dad kept saying oh it’s not too bad. 3 hours later we arrived where we were walking to and then we spent another 1 hour on top of that wandering around the town/lake. I’m 14 weeks post partum and quite fit but I was exhausted. And my little one was crying because she was hungry and I’d had to breast feed walking. My boyfriend was saying you are so stressed the whole walk which wasn’t helping. It’s obvious when I’m stressed because I’m usually chilled even with a baby. I finally broke down when the only option was to feed my baby in a fish and chip shop window and when a kind lady saw me and said you are doing so well. The only act of understanding or kindness I’d received all day so the floodgates opened.

On the drive back to his familys house my baby was crying so much, she’s usually so chilled so I just felt like I’d failed her.

This morning I woke up and I just couldn’t stop crying. I feel super overwhelmed and like I’m in a house of people that don’t consider or understand what it’s like to have days out with a young baby. My boyfriend said this morning I should go to the doctors - that made me feel even worse. I’ve not cried one day since 2 weeks post partum. 1 day I’m crying because I’m overwhelmed and I’m not coping being away from home when so much is expected of me but he’s now making out I’m mentally ill. I feel so sad he doesn’t understand me and that I have to perform the role of super mum, step mum and sociable partner at all times or I need to see a doctor.

Caught him cheating

So I had my suspicions, but when I checked his phone I could never find anything. Today I checked the deleted folder and the messages were all stored there…

I packed my stuff up while he slept. I feel sick to my stomach waiting for morning, so I’m just writing this to try and bring myself some clarity. It’s 2am and I’m just staring at the clock with this pit in my stomach

Failure

So I just feel like complete failure! So I have an 8 year old who is very hyperactive but also very social at the same time! There are times that we will be in public and she acts just so downright embarrassing! We talk with her about what she doing we try to explain things to her! We try to make her realize what she doing! A lot of the times we get the response oh I don’t understand even after we just did our best to explain what she was doing! This week as been worse because it our county’s fair and she being asking and doing such much that make me just want to give up as a mom! Are there any other moms that feel this way and just prayer their kid grow up and gain patience! We even have her in 4h hoping that will help
