Calling all people who do/have work in childcare, how do you go about getting started in the career? I have no prior qualifications or experience relating to childcare apart from I have 2 of my own kids haha but it is my dream job honestly. I would start an apprenticeship but the issue I have is that my kids are 2.5 years and 6 months and neither are in nursery currently š . Iām due to go back to my current job in September but Iām hoping to get into the childcare sector by then or at least by the end of the year, can I start at a nursery part time without an apprenticeship or qualifications? Iām so eager to get started but idk where to start š¤£

I work in a nursery. You can be unqualified but itās usually a 0 hour bank/supply staff contract. Places are desperate for staff right now so itās likely youāll get hours, however, there are certain ratios of qualified to unqualified staff needed. Itās definitely worth having a look on Indeed to check for unqualified positions. Maybe have a look on some local nurseries websites at vacancies or giving a few a call. The pros of being supply staff is that you can chose when to work and what hours suit you, you donāt have as many responsibilities (like key children and so) but there may be periods where you donāt get work. I started as an apprentice and am now fully qualified, most work is on the job and youāre supposed to get hours out of the room during work hours to complete any paperwork but this is not always done. Something to consider, if your children start at the nursery you work at, you wonāt be allowed to be in the same room as them, so from your childrenās age youāll likely be

in the preschool room which is 3-5 in most places. Itās a very hard and stressful job and Iāve had some of my worst days in that place but itās very beautiful being able to see so many children grow and develop and starting them on their journey is an amazing opportunity! Hope this was helpful
