Nursery

So I have a 2 year old - non verbal & potentially autistic.

Me & my partner have said from day one we would not send them to nursery as we don't trust anyone & have heard such negative feedback from friends. I have worries of her being neglected/abused and thoughts of her crying and no-one helping her. Yes I'm having counselling for my anxiety.

However, recently I think I've started to change my mind. I am still extremely anxious but I believe it will help her. Shes such a happy kid and will entertain herself but I'm worried she's being under stimulated. However, my husband is still 100% on her not going. I feel like I'm failing her. She doesnt go to groups as I also have a newborn so cannot do both.

I don't know what to do.

You could start by just looking at your local nurseries or pre schools. Ask to speak to them about their SEND offer or speak with their SENDCO if a preschool. They can advise you on any support they can offer or set up a LSP for children with additional needs. They can also help with a speech and language referral if you’d like. Also ask about communication apps or options. Regular updates, pictures or the option to call might ease your worries or anxieties.

You could then start to look around nurseries/preschools. Once decided you could trial one half day and see how she copes/gets on. You could always up her days as she settles in and becomes more confident. This will also give you a morning alone with your newborn without too much change to your 2 year olds routine.

At the end of the day, you might start her at a nursery or pre school and decide it’s not for her/you. Then you have the option to remove her. On the other hand she might love it and thrive there.

Why not ask your husband to go and visit a couple of different nurseries? That really helped settle our anxiety! All the nurseries we visited let us go in the middle of the day basically unannounced and showed us around, they took our drivers license/ids etc for safeguarding and that made us feel way more confident.
As well as that our nursery have said we can do sit ins and half days on the lead up to help with any further anxiety and the transition 😊

I started my child at half a day with a child minder when she was 11 months.
By 16 months. She did half day CM and 1 day nursery..
By age 2, I removed her from CM.ad wasn't happy and she outgrew it, so I did 1 day normal.nursery and 1 day montesorri nursery.
Within 3 months I realised she is learning so much more from momtesorri school and.nurery was just looking after her or.play..
So I took het 2 days montesorri..
Age 3 I did 2 days montesorry and 1 day nursery , a different nursery at a private school as we thought we might to send her then from age 5 and then shed have made friends already.
Age 4 we did.2 days montesorri and 2 days normal nursery 1 day at home with me

She has grown soooo much!!!
I have other friends who didn't send their kids to nursery or maybe only 1 or 2x per week, And they are slouch more behind!
She will now start school i Septermber and 5 days a week amd she is more than ready!

If it helps, my sons nursery workers are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. I cannot fault them.
They care for the children like they are their own. I feel I really trust them now (it took me a while at first too) and would actually ask them to babysit at our house of we ever needed it.
Hopefully you'll find a setting where 1. You as parents feel comfortable and 2. Your child will love it it there too!

They really do thrive in group situations!

Nursery can really help kids with their verbal skills sometimes! I know of so many kids who weren’t talking before nursery as they were either the only child in their family or they just weren’t with the right age group! Definitely not a bad idea at all. Impossible I know but ignore everyone else, do what you thinks right!x

I am not making it up

So my daughter is now two months old and about 14days old, she was five weeks early, so any way I was told by my last HV appointment she should start smiling, I was like ok but in her own time, I know babies will do things in their own time, last week I began to notice her trying to smile and yesterday I leaned over her cot to give her a morning kis and she smiled at me and fell asleep, when she was a awake she smiled at me while I dressed her, this morning she smiled again and tired to get photos, these are her smiling aren't they, I was letting her do in her own time but I didn't know if premature babies have some catching up to do because they are premature but please tell the truth is she starting to smile

Feeding during heatwave

Wanting other mums opinions…
I have a 3 month old baby which I formula feed.
Between feeds would you offer your baby a few sips of water inbetween as we’re in a heatwave, or do you just offer more feeds?
At the moment as it’s so hot I don’t want him to get dehydrated so I fed every 3 hours. Is that enough or not?

The heat.. what do I do

My baby has a fan in his room & the window open but the Tommee tippee egg still says it’s 27 degrees🥴
He’s only in a nappy but is there anything I can do to make the room cool down more before I go to bed?

It’s reached 25/26 before and he’s been fine but walking into his room is like a sauna it’s ridiculous - ours isn’t much better.

Do children with noise sensitivity always have ASD or can it be a phase?

She’s 3 doesn’t like loud noises, or repetitive noises. Easily startled to the point where me and my husband can’t shout for each other in separate rooms. Wont wear headphones because she doesn’t like them. Doesn’t like when people say bye also. Currently waiting on a referral for a hearing test.

Poor daddy!

Anyone else having/had this issue ??

I'm a first time mum and exclusively breastfeeding our daughter
She's only just under 2 weeks old, but almost every time she's held by dad she screams the place down and won't settle.

Unfortunately due to being on deployment during the pregnancy he was unable to do the whole talking to the bump thing and now I feel so bad for him.

He's acting fine but I know deep down it's absolutely killing him that she won't settle with him

Anyone had this issue or have any suggestions?
