PPD

Hi everyone, 5 weeks pp and I am struggling. I cry everyday, can’t eat, can’t relax without feeling so anxious about everything. Feel like I can’t stay in the house but don’t know where to go, I feel so lost at the minute. I’m exclusively breast feeding and he’s on every 2 hours, won’t go to anyone else for a cuddle, or to hold. I feel like I’m losing my mind - do I introduce formula or try pumping?

Well done for getting for 5 weeks, it is incredibly hard, I got to 10 days and was on the verge of a breakdown. I spoke to the midwife and we decided a mentally healthy mum was what baby needed most and fed is best. The guilt is real, there’s a lot of pressure on women to be breastfeeding, but when it’s affecting your mental health it’s a wake up call that we can’t give our best if we aren’t feeling strong and rested ourselves. Also when we’re sleep deprived like this it’s easy for everything to feel catastrophic x

I would definitely speak with a doctor about how you’re feeling as they’ll be able to help and point you in the right direction or possibly start some medication for you just to help with how you’re feeling.

As for going out even going for a walk down the road or out to the shops to get a bit of shopping done definitely can help.

It is hard when they are so little and won’t go to anyone other than you x

Prolactin the breast feeding hormone can def make you super anxious! It sounds unsustainable at the moment.
I chose to take an antidepressant which works really well and continue breast feeding, and that worked really well for us. Very little passes to the baby whereas if you are stressed they are stressed too.
Talk to your doctor and work out what you want to do. Pumping won’t make a whole lot of difference.
I agree going out is a good idea. Just strap the baby in a carrier and do a very short walk. They complain so much going in - but by the end of our street mine was asleep or happily watching the world go by. The library or a coffee shop even just the local shop and back. It’s so important for mental health to achieve a little outing and get some fresh air and steps 🙂

Wish I lived closer to you as I'd go for a walk or coffee with you. I'm breastfeeding but also pumping and bottle feeding. Hats off for mums who EBF but it's not for me. By expressing it's helping my partner bond with his baby and it gives me a break, which is well needed. Do what's right for you Hun, as long as that baby has you, that's all that matters xx

Start pumping it made the world of difference in my breastfeeding journey as someone else can feed baby x

Sleeping on your back

Hi guys, I've been told so many different things about ways of sleeping. I try to sleep on my left but I always find I sleep on my back. Is this ok?

Postpartum Hair Loss

Anyone else experiencing postpartum hair loss around 3 months? I genuinely had no idea this was even a thing until it started happening to me! 😩 Any tips for helping with it? And does it actually all grow back? 🥲

17 month old not walking

My son has just turned 17 months and still isn’t walking, he can crawl, pull himself up on things & cruise along furniture. He’s also able to take a few steps if we play a game of back & fourth but gives up quite quickly.

I think he may be double jointed, I’ve spent far too long on Google & im really concerned / starting to not sleep because of it.

Has anyone had any positive outcomes?
I feel like I’m not doing enough etc 😩

Grunting, straining, red faced… HELP

my little one is just over 3 weeks and honestly I think he spends every night from 3am onwards grunting, straining, stretching his legs out and passing wind until about 6am. The only way he will sleep is if he is on my tummy down as this seems to give him comfort but it’s hard for me to not fall asleep when this happens! We have taken him to the doctors and they said he’s just a baby basically🤷‍♀️ he poos fine, passes wind throughout the night all night, burps after every feed I just cannot work out why he does it! Please can I have some advice or at least someone who is in the same boat 😭😭

Doing so much better

Just wanted to make a post to any other new mums out there who are fixated on your baby’s sleep.
For the first three months it was all I could focus on, making sure she got enough daytime sleep to help stretch out her nights / focused heavily on wake windows. I realised I became obsessive and it was making motherhood so rigid.
For the past few weeks I have thrown it all out the window and have trusted my instinct, stopped tracking on huckleberry and very loosely follow the clock but more so look at my baby’s cues.
Her sleep is still very much up and down but she has given me night stretches of 6 hours at times. The one significant improvement has been in myself and my enjoyment of motherhood. I actually feel free? 🤣
I know schedules work for some but ultimately wake windows are just an average and every baby is different.
I really would recommend to anyone who is struggling with this to just put everything down even for a few days and see if you notice a difference in yourself
I’m here if anyone wants to chat about the wormhole of sleep, the routine of searching everything on Google and the worry of everyday feeling like a battle of naps 💕

Car seat issues

Help!! My daughter screams badly EVERY time I put her in the car seat. It causes me so much aniexty to take her out, I feel so trapped at the moment as don’t want to take her out because of it. It’s like a bad scream to the point where she’s sweating due to getting so worked up. This panics me so I always pull over to calm her down and put her back in. Has anyone had anything similar and can offer some advice? Thanks so much x x
