Hello, I have a 6 year old with adhd. It’s pretty bad. I hate the thought of medication but we went ahead and started some because the therapist made a good point. It’s not just hyper. His impulsive control is insane. With the medicine he will have the time to think and process that it’s not safe to chase a ball into the street. Or other dangerous things. Also it can affect his grade and friendships. So we went ahead and stated it. The teachers and principal said he has been SO good. There are two issues though. 1 he isn’t hungry at all. So I have to give him a lot at breakfast and lunch. He barely touches his school lunch. I can’t go with him and force him to eat. So we’re kinda working around that. However, his sleep pattern is so outta wack. I will put him in bed at 8 and for the last week he keeps falling asleep at 11-12. He wakes up at 6:30 for school. He seems to be doing just fine at school, but nothing seems to convince him to go to bed. No threat works, spanking didn’t work as much as I hated trying it. Nothing helps. Just letting him read his books until he is tired is all I can do for the moment. I can’t get so mad that I yell at him. It wouldn’t even work amyways. Taking things away doesn’t work. He just won’t calm down or feel sleepy at bed time.
