Breastfeeding/expressing advice

I'm 10 days PP and a FTM, breastfeeding is going really well but I got sooo overwhelmed last night by her cluster feeding from 10pm-3am, it was relentless and none stop. The groups we went to reccomended waiting till 6 weeks to start expressing to make sure she has a good latch on me and to minimise nipple confusion.

Has anyone expressed earlier and not had nipple confusion?

I've also not a clue what time of day I'd express.. I don't want an oversupply.

Hey, firstly you’re doing amazing - those long nights cluster feeding are wild!

With my first (currently awaiting my second ⏰) I would collect some milk from the let down from the breast I wasn’t feeding with during one or two of the night feeds (you produce more milk at night), either with a haaka or hand pump. We probably did this from 3-4 weeks?

That gave me enough that my partner could give baby one feed during the night and buy me a couple of extra hours. The one bottle feed didn’t cause nipple confusion, and as it wasn’t intense pumping, no oversupply either ☺️

My little one is 2 weeks old tomorrow, I exclusively breastfeed on demand currently but I collect my let down and end up giving him around a 3oz bottle once per day and he has no issues with nipple confusion he takes either just fine, he also has a dummy and no confusion there either, I think it depends on baby honestly x

I started pumping when my LO was 3 days old because she was pre term and jaundice so wasn't getting enough milk! She will usually have one bottle a day before bed and will happily take the breast the rest of the time so no confusion.

Can't help with getting an oversupply as I've had the opposite and have needed to create more of a supply for my milk!

You are doing an amazing job! Clusterfeeding is so hard but it does pass.

With my first, I had to express from the beginning because he had a tongue tie and was struggling to gain weight. Initially, we cup fed to try and prevent nipple confusion but we were wasting so much milk that he had a bottle from about 1 week. I absolutely did create an oversupply but managed it with collectors and in the end donated to the milk bank.

This time, she’s such good feeder. I’ve used a haakaa to collect let down only, but have frozen all the milk I’ve collected. Don’t really know what our plan is with bottles and I think will wait till the 6 week mark, but it’s only because it created a fair bit of freedom with our first because he would happily take a bottle so I could go to the hairdressers, nice things like that without worrying!

Moses to cot transition

I fear I may have to transition my baby to his own room soon. He’s 5 months old and according to google he should transition from 4-6 months or when he gains movement skills. He knows how to roll and that is one skill that is mentioned for his safety, as he could accordingly roll out the Moses. I say I “fear” this but it’s more that I don’t want it to end. I’m massively grieving over his growth and milestones, time is flying way too quickly and I fear I’ve missed everyone moment of his newborn stage and now he’s almost crawling. I roll over and immediately see his cute little face. How do I accept this and do I actually need to transition him soon?

He has been going to sleep at 8:30pm and sleeping through until 5:30/6am. Now he has started stirring at around 1:30am-4am. He will groan and grunt and then cry and wake himself up? Anyone gone through something similar and what did you do

Feeding to sleep

I know a lot of us feed to sleep and that babies are biologically wired to do so. But what are we doing when a nap only lasts 30 mins and the wake window is then over in 1.5 hours… its only been 2 hours since the last feed so are we feeding again for the next nap? This is what I’m struggling the most with right now! My baby has definitely formed a feed to sleep association so it’s a lot harder to get them to nap without a feed.

Urgent sleep help needed!

My little girl is 16 months and had co slept with us until 14 months. She has been in a small cot in our room up until recently. Shes been in her own room a few weeks now but her sleeping is terrible. It’s taking most night 1.5/2 hours to get her to sleep. Then when she is asleep we try to creep out, the second no one is in with her she wakes up and screams. It doesn’t matter if I crawl out, do it gradually or walk out she just knows.

I’m just exhausted. I’m up half the night with her each night now, I have no evenings. She’s tired everyday because she’s not sleeping enough. It’s just exhausting. Any advice?

A big part is definitely separation anxiety, my husband thinks we need to let her cry it out… It’s a big change going in her own room without us, I just don’t know what to do for the best.

Right now everyone’s shattered.

Anyone been in a similar situation and any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much :)
