So you start at the top of your boob sort of messaging downwards to where the areola is and when you feel like a change in texture you do a C shape and compress inwards a couple of times, you will start to see milk is coming out

I had a similar issue for the first week after having my baby. I found it very difficult to hand express. Probably TMI but my fiancé had to do the hand expression for me cause I couldn’t get the milk to come out. I think I had a lot of difficulty because I have small hands and big boobs. Also with the nipples/areola/breast pain after birth it is very hard. I found it helpful to watch YouTube videos of how to hand express and then just keep practicing. Also if you have a lot of nipple pain and cracked or damaged nipples from breastfeeding there is a prescription cream that really helped me… it called Apno cream
