My baby girl was born 8/14/2026, and within 4 hours of life was taken to NICU. We got to come home on Monday. During golden hour and briefly in NICU we’ve tried to latch and have been unsuccessful. She roots at breast and has got on once maybe twice but then doesn’t suckling/just goes to sleep/or won’t even attach…
Going from hospital pump to home pump has been a challenge. I’ve learned that I do require two different flanges. Been trying to stay in the every two hour pumping schedule (getting 1-1.5oz a session). We have need to use donor milk, and formula…
I’ve just felt like a failure of a momma because I just can’t get her to latch… NICU nurses said she has a good suck swallow reflex and will take bottle which is how we’ve been feeding her…
Just scheduled an in person lactation appointment as well…

You are not a failure, you’re doing your absolute best!! My daughter had problems latching too in the beginning and I had to bottle feed her. The important thing is your baby is being fed!
I hope lactation is helpful. Keep trying with the breastfeeding, even if it doesn’t work at first. My daughter has got much better because we kept practicing. You’ve got this momma!!!!
