Advice on what MIL said

I need opinions on this because I’m honestly really pissed off and I can’t tell if I’m overreacting.

My husband was on the phone with his mom, and she asked how the baby was doing. My husband said everything was good and that I’ve basically been handling everything with him. Then, immediately after that, his mom randomly says something like, “I saw the scariest thing on the news. This woman went off the deep end after having her third baby and killed her whole family.”

Like… am I crazy, or is that a REALLY weird thing to bring up right after talking about me and how I’ve been handling everything with the baby? The timing felt so pointed and passive-aggressive to me.

I brought it up to my husband afterward, and instead of even acknowledging why it would bother me, he got defensive and told me I was reading too much into it and “drawing a parallel” that she wasn’t making. That honestly pissed me off even more because I feel like he never stands up for me when it comes to his mom.

I’m not saying I can prove what she meant by it, but who says something like that in that exact context? Would anyone else have taken that as a passive-aggressive dig, or am I really reading too much into it?

Sounds to me like what she was trying to say was “I saw this thing on the news about a woman who had the most extreme worst case postpartum scenario happen to her, and it got me thinking about your wife and wanted to make sure she has support so she doesn’t struggle” but not necessarily saying you would ever do that. If that makes sense.

I can see why you’re upset AND I don’t think she meant anything by it. This was a really scary thing to have happened and I think a LOT of people are more frightened than they need to be, given how rare postpartum psychosis is. It sounds like honestly she was trying to check in on you, even if this was a weird way to do it

Yes, that’s a weird comment to make right after mentioning you and baby. How’s your relationship with her other than this comment? If this is the only thing, I would try to dismiss it. If there has been other comments, I would think she’s been passive aggressive

I think it’s weird she said something like that too. I honestly don’t know the history or the context of the relationship you have with her. Based on this interaction alone, I would advice against on jumping to conclusions on her intentions here.

Here is what I agree with you. Your husband’s response should have been supportive of you. He doesn’t have to acknowledge whether his mom’s intentions are bad here. He could have just said “I don’t know what she meant, but I understand why that sounded weird to you.” That would have validated your feelings without having to prove his mom’s intent.

This is more of a husband response problem than a MIL problem. Your husband dismissing you is the issue here.

Maybe shes trying to encourage him to make sure you’re OK and help with the baby more without saying it.

Feeling down and defeated

I’m feeling some what down and think I’ve got postnatal depression. My 5 month old is just refusing to do anything but cry on me, not sleep or eat (he does have a clean nappy), and my partner pretty much treats me like I’m his maid and not his partner. I don’t feel at all happy with my life and I just feel stuck. I know I’m not being the best mother I can be but this has become my daily life now. I don’t know what to do. I really don’t want judgment but I’ve never felt so alone. I feel like the worst parent going.

Arm jerking, stiffening and discomfort

My 10 month old is constantly flailing her arms. She also thrusts her arms out in a jerking movement and stiffens her body. She has started to shout with it like shes in discomfort. My GP and the hospital just say its excitement or frustration. We are concerned there are most neurological issues that are not being taken seriously. Its hard to capture it on video as as soon as I get my phone out she stops! I have a few videos that show it well though.

She has had an EEG which was normal. This has been going for months now though....

Any one else's little one do this??

Test size

Please can anyone give me some advice on teat sizes! My boy is nearly 9 weeks but quite big for his age. I’m using MAM bottles and the teat size 0 is seeming too small now as he is clicking a lot on the bottle. I’ve tried size 1 a few times and it seems too fast as I can hear he’s taking in a lot of air and he’s crying in pain while swallowing. HELP😭

I need some advice on what to do

Basically I have 14 week old turning 15 weeks on Sunday.
For the last maybe 2-3 weeks she’s been drinking milk every 2 hrs. If it’s formula, she has 5 oz but is still hungry after 2 hrs. I’d understand if it was breast milk cuz it’s usually 2-3 hrs.

At first I thought it was a growth spurt yet idk how long it last. During the night. She has her last night feed around 8:30-8:45 and she doesn’t need another feed til 2am. Then again at 6 and then it goes back to the ever 2hrs.

Just need to know if this is normal or something I need to speak to my gp about.

Naps

How many naps is everyone’s babies taking each day at the moment? My boy is all over the place - some days he will take 4 and others 5 but should he not be getting closer to 3 naps a day at 5 1/2 months?
