Am i wrong for feeling annoyed?

My in laws are very involved in my child's life, its a lovely problem to have i guess but sometimes I feel like my MIL oversteps and takes firsts away from me. This weekend we've gone for our first family holiday with my 9 month old and they've come with us, we mentioned we wanted to buy a baby walker and she's gone off and bought one without asking or telling us first.
Her first time at the beach and she was there and strolled off with her before I got chance to. Our first time with her on the swings and she's just...there.
Same as giving her ice cream/foods/sweets whatever, she just gives it to her without asking. Idk if I'm overreacting or I feel like a bit pushed out. She's my daughter and I just wanted to do some firsts with her myself. Not sure if I'm being mean and should just get over it. How would you approach it?

I think this is understandable. My mother-in-law is so excited which is lovely but she's brought everything pretty much. So I don't get to have a choice. Our baby isn't here yet but I do worry that she will be over involved and I'll get overwhelmed with it all. I quite like being in control so I think that's my issue and I'm trying to be ok with it. Firsts are a massive thing and I don't want to miss any and I want to be the one who introduces things in a way I am comfortable with and when I am comfortable with. I don't know what to suggest for you but your feelings are relevant, justified and understanding

And you should have all the ‘firsts’. You’re her mum. My in-laws were the same and I sent them a long message explaining why I want some things to be the way I want them to be. You shouldn’t have to justify yourself at the end of the day she’s your daughter. I know how frustrating it is but you have to set some boundaries because you will bottle all the frustration up and then you’ll snap and it won’t be pleasant. She needs to respect your boundaries and you have to put some in place sooner rather than later 😭

Do you love them? If you do speak to them honestly and with love and tell them how you feel but don’t exclude or push them out

Also bear in mind how blessed you are as some people have absolutely no village and are raising children completely isolated with no break or support

Count your blessings

Personally I'd be putting some distance there

To be honest there’s a presents MIL and then there’s a pushy/overbearing MIL & then there’s MIL like mine just « indifferent »
Your MIL sounds like the pushy/overbearing MIL … I’d just politely tell her to take a few steps back … maybe don’t mention to her when you want to get stuff so she doesn’t go get it first lol 😂
Also I just think MIL in general are always going to be hardwork at some point or another haha 😜

Sick cat, feel like a bad person

Our cat, 14 years, is sick, he went to the vet 3 times last week and turns out he has pancreatitis. He doesn’t eat or drink.
The vet visits easily cost 1000 pounds. And we can’t really keep paying massive vet bills.

We have a 20 month old, and I’m 8 weeks pregnant. I just don’t have the mental capacity to deal with this. I want the the cat to live several more years, and our 20 month old loves him.
But with him just not eating and with vet bills I just feel like we should put him down.

We had 2 cats and put the previous down a month before our daughter was born, at that point he probably wouldn’t have lasted out the month anyway, and I felt we should have put him down earlier.

But our remaining cat isn’t as bad as our old one I just don’t want to deal with it, and I feel bad!

Am I horrible?

Anyone else struggling with their partners?

I’m booked in for an induction on Wednesday, my partner is superrr happy & excited whereas I’m more quiet because I’m nervous about what I’m going to have to go through. I explained to him that I’m actually not that scared about the pain (because either path we take is painful) I’m actually just more worried about spending 5+ days in the hospital being bored to death & being told there’s no progress. And he responded with “yeah but it’s fine, I can leave and get you stuff, I can get you clean clothes & food” (this wasn’t related to my worries at all) I replied back with “but I just wish I was the one who could go home & do some laundry, sleep in our own bed & see our dog”🥺he then responded with “no matter what I do for you, it’s not enough”. I feel like he’s just missed the entire point? I never said what he’s doing isn’t enough. I said I just wish I could be the one with the freedom & feel the excitement. Rather than having to stare at a hospital curtain for 120+ hours to be told you’re still not dilating🤣 I feel like he’s not being very understanding which is upsetting me more

Where are peoples manners ?

I just want to share an uncomfortable situation we experienced today. I was deeply concerned by the behavior of both a child and her parent toward my son in a public playground in Burbank today.

Today, at the water splash area at Fremont Park in Burbank, my 4-year-old son was playing with his friends. Someone had brought tennis balls into the splash area, and the children began throwing them outside the designated area. I did not object, as this seemed safer than allowing the balls to remain in the splash area, where they could potentially strike another child.

An older girl repeatedly yelled at my son to stop. While I understand that she may have been concerned about the balls being thrown outside the splash area, repeatedly yelling at a young child was inappropriate. After continuing to yell at him, she threw a toy at his back. I immediately approached her and calmly told her that she was not permitted to yell at or throw objects at my child.

I then spoke with her mother to explain what had occurred. Unfortunately, rather than addressing her daughter’s behavior or acknowledging that a toy had been thrown at my son, the mother became confrontational and began yelling at me. She stated that I had no right to speak to a minor and that I should have located the child’s mother first. She did have a heavy russian accent, not sure if this is normal behavior where she’s from but I will not allow anyone to mistreat or bully my children, especially a child much older and bigger than him. How do you locate someone’s mother when she’s busy on her phone ? She also mocked the way I was speaking to her.

I understand that parents may prefer to address their children’s behavior themselves. However, when a child is repeatedly yelling at my 4-year-old and physically throwing a toy at him, I believe it is reasonable to intervene immediately and tell the child to stop. I would have preferred to speak with the mother afterward and resolve the situation calmly, but unfortunately, the interaction became unnecessarily hostile.

Parents should remain attentive to and monitor their children’s behavior so that situations like this can be prevented in the future. Mutual respect, appropriate supervision, and courteous communication are essential in public.
