I’m in my early 30s and have an 8-month-old baby. From the outside, my relationship probably looked like two people who were connected and in love, but in reality, we spent over three years dealing with misunderstandings and conflicts.
We planned for our baby for a year, so he was very much wanted, but the pregnancy was up and down, and since having the baby it has been a real rollercoaster of emotions, rejection and anxiety. I still struggle to feel connected to my baby, which makes me feel guilty, and the relationship with his dad ended a few months after the birth when he said we were incompatible. I completely agree now.
We still spend 24/7 around each other, which is incredibly difficult. Sometimes I feel like I’ve started to hate him.
I also have ADHD and dyslexia, which can make everything feel even more overwhelming, especially when I’m already exhausted. On top of being a mum, I’m also a student, so I constantly have university work and responsibilities to deal with. I feel like I have absolutely no time for myself or any real chance to switch off and recover.
I feel very alone and constantly stressed and low, and lately I’ve been wondering whether I might be experiencing postnatal depression.
I’m sharing this because I’m hoping to hear from other mums who may have experienced something similar. Did anyone else struggle to connect with their baby, feel completely overwhelmed, or feel like they had completely lost themselves after becoming a mum? ❤️

Is that okay? As soon as we got outside he was fine

What is everyone’s sleep looking like at night at the moment? My little man is 7 weeks Saturday and his longest stretch of actual sleep overnight is around 4 hours, although including the time awake he’ll go 5.5 between feeds in that instance. He’s a big boy and gaining weight happily so I’m not worried, just curious how everyone else is doing (other than being shattered 😅)

Family dynamic has always been questionable. Very traumatic childhood, super dysfunctional- just experienced things no child or young person should experience and it did affect the way I interact with my family (mum and two sisters)
Anyways my family adore my son (only grandchild), love looking after him but I feel like an afterthought. I feel so selfish for it because the baby matters way more than I do but no one ever really asks me what I need. No one comes over anymore, I always have to go to them with him. I feel constantly criticised for my choices in terms of how I feed him, bedtimes etc - sometimes it doesn't feel like he's my child and honestly ive thought about ending my life and him just being with them would be better for him. Have been struggling with PND amongst other things and was told that I'd damage him emotionally which I don't wanna do which is the reason for these thoughts. I've been called manipulative and abusive for literally just struggling and having a mental health crisis and selfish when I've tried so say that my baby is mine.
I just don't really enjoy being around them anymore but don't have any other help
In the past when I've tried to talk about things that have hurt my feelings (especially around the birth of my son) I've been made to feel like the bad guy and my mum is very avoidant with feelings so I'm not allowed to talk about it and my son is 1 now and I just feel so heavy and resentful

Lying on the sofa with one of my girlies asleep on my chest after feeding. She’s 6 weeks and is being so fussy at the moment, crying a lot, so I don’t dare move while she’s settled 😅
