Speaking up about PPD

Hey I had a situation today with my therapist. I really trusted her and spoke up about how I was feeling after holding it in for a while because it felt scary to talk about. My therapist reassured me that my feelings are normal after birth and that I would not get into trouble. I asked her 4x in therapy if the way I was feeling would get me in trouble and she reassured me I was not. Today she calls me and tells me I have to go to the ER or I will have crisis at my house. I had no plans. I had no intent . I only discussed an intrusive thought at an overwhelming moment. It was just scary. However I know I wouldn’t act on it. I was
More scared that my mind thought of that intrusive thought. My mom’s a nurse and she has told me this was wrong. The thing that bothers me about this whole situation is that there really is no support after birth for PPD and no one talks about it to prepare you for when it happens to you. I don’t feel like the healthcare and justice systems do a great job at making women feel they can speak up. My therapist ruined the idea of therapy being a safe space, she lost all of my trust, and now I don’t feel like I can speak to doctors or another therapist again. I see a psychatrist next week and I’m just horrified now to tell him anything- small or big.

My therapist worked on teaching me to speak up to healthcare professionals and not allowing myself to be dismissed. She didn’t tell me at the end of the therapy session that she was thinking I was unsafe. When she called me today she didn’t explain why she was sending me to the ER, after being in therapy the day before being reassured it’s all normal, I’m not crazy and she said word for word “I don’t see the need for any legal intervention.” Then why did Crisis show up at my door today?

Has anyone else gone through this? I’m having a a hard time wanting to post this , but I feel so betrayed by my therapist. I want to speak and talk to someone but now I don’t feel I can. I kinda feel small and in a corner.

You can message me I won’t judge in the slightest. This is also my fear of discussing postpartum in therapy and my sister also had a similar experience (not relating to PPD) which made her scared to discuss postpartum with a therapist. If you want a safe space to discuss your intrusive thoughts I’m here, I think a lot of mums are scared to open up due to fear or judgment x

So sorry you're going through this. The current Lundsay Clancy case has been realise that I'm just functioning but under the surface not okay really. I just don't allow myself time to think and feel which isn't healthy. Well done for being in therapy although now I personally wouldn't trust my therapist after that incident.

So usually, they have to disclose at the beginning that if they think you are any harm to yourself or others they have to intervene but the fact that you asked many times and she said no is interesting.. But Im thinking that she most probably shared this with her supervisor and they told her she need to raise this as a crisis purely to cover her ass in case something did happen and it came out that she did not raise this formally then she would be in trouble basically.

This does not diminish your feeling of betrayal al all !! she went about it the wrong way. You can do a subject request for all your therapy notes if you wanted and take next steps or raise this with her employer.

I was lucky to find the absolute best OB he literally gave me his cell phone number after delivery and told me to text him if I was struggling- which I did. He gave me a therapist contact info and I instantly did not vibe or feel comfortable with this person. I asked my OB for two more referrals and I almost like interviewed these people to find the one I liked.

Don’t let this one bad experience ruin it for you keep your head up and advocate for yourself and find a different provider that your comfortable with and is in your corner!

Your therapist sounds like an idiot, where she’s made you go through that to cover her arse and it wasn’t even necessary. I’m not a therapist, but I hear disclosures of suicidal ideation and intrusive thoughts daily. I also work for a very risk averse organisation, but I would never intervene like that unless the person had been clear they were going to act on their thoughts or if I felt there was disguise compliance to avoid an intervention. If I were you I would put in a complaint.

Please don’t be put off therapy though, I’ve disclosed suicidal ideation many times to therapists and other professionals and never has anyone responded like your therapist.

I’m sorry you were made to feel like that , but at the same time she is probably also trying to cover her ass ya know

This is why I'm not in therapy right now and im over here losing my mind not having anyone that knows what I'm going through. I feel so alone these days that I cry myself to sleep when I actually get the chance to sleep. If you ever want to talk I'm here. We can both share and not feel so alone

Apologies if this seems petty

I have an almost 2 year old daughter
She’s my whole life I adore her

I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday
We found out we’re having another daughter & I absolutely weeped like I mourned a son that was never meant for me
I dreamed up an entire world with my daughter & this second child being a son & it’s hit me so hard knowing now that won’t be my reality

I’m finding it really difficult to accept

Has anyone felt this way
I see all kinds of families around me with & without children with boys with girls with a mix etc

I am so grateful for everything I have
I just can’t help this feeling
My heart aches

Tell me why???

The first thing I think of (after are they ok) when my husband says he's at the ER because our son got stung half a dozen times by wasps was "where are his glasses? He can't see without his glasses"

My son doesn't wear glasses.

He's fine btw

Baby sling/ carrier recommendations

Can anyone recommend a baby carrier/ sling?

I didn’t use one much with my first but I’m due to have my second soon and I’m thinking with 2 under 2 it will be useful to have my hands free and actually use one.

I don’t want to spend a fortune considering I didn’t use it last time but equally want something easy to get baby in and out of and comfortable wearing for me.

Thanks in advance.

When will I have more time for school or work?

Hey there I’m a ftm and been home with my baby for 6 months. I enjoy it but I’m also wanting to provide more for her by getting an education or mentorship. What age do you think is gonna be the best to start setting those goals? Right now I feel like I’m too busy with her and keeping up with our house.
