Negative midwife experience

Hi beautiful ladies,

I’m feeling absolutely awful about my latest midwife appointment. I’m going through the public health system so every visit is a new/different midwife. I went in for my 28 week appointment, and when the midwife asked how my mental health was I told her it was up and down and I’m after a referral for the free psychologist program offered (🇦🇺), she looked almost annoyed at me and told me I need to talk to my own psychologist before she gives me a referral. She also asked about my support network - I told her that my dad had passed away from mental heath and my mum has a carer and addiction issues. We have a positive relationship but it’s not possible or practical to rely on her. I explained that my only other family is two brothers who live two states away and do FIFO work. I explained that my partners family all live interstate with the closest being his mum who is two hours away. She told me that it’s simply not good enough and that I need to get my mum to stay with me to help me and help with the baby, I explained to her that she unfortunately can’t stay with me because she is a long term addict and that isn’t an option. After this, she reiterated that I need to have someone to come stay with me for a week or two at a time and if I can’t find anyone, I’m going to be hiding inside my wardrobe crying at 4am, she reiterated this multiple times.

Does anyone else here have limited to no support and have been grilled by midwives about this?

I’m considering ringing the hospital and requesting not to see that midwife again

Ps. Just noting that I am completely okay, I’ve lived my entire life without parents or a support system and this is just another thing. The midwife just really got in there with a dagger

i’m sorry that’s horrible i had midwives question my support when we discussed my mental health but to put it the way yours did is wild and inappropriate you sound like you’re doing an amazing job on your own and doing the right thing asking for a referral literally what more does she expect from you

definitely a good idea asking not to see that midwife specifically again

Thankyou beautiful 🩷

I understand it’s a normal question and I discussed this openly with my first midwife and the response I received from her was so nurturing and warm.

It’s wild to me that this one had such a horrific response and kept driving it home that I will be suffering

What’s wrong with this woman really? My mother has “just” anxiety issues and still I don’t want her here to help because I become super nervous around her, let alone the amount of attention and control it takes to have near you a person with addiction to help you in such an important phase. I will be having only my partner for 2 weeks and then I will be on my own while he works, it will be hard but that’s the way it is. I think this midwife is projecting her stuff into you and she has no idea what does it mean to have relatives who can’t be your support system and suck the life out of you and rely on you emotionally since you were a child, at least that’s how it feels for me. I think it’s worth asking to not see her again, she’s definitely not helpful.

Can we talk vaccinations?🙏🏼

Question for the mums 🩷

Are you/have you vaccinating/vaccinated your baby? 💉

If yes, what made you decide to vaccinate? Are you glad you did?

And if not, I’d love to hear your reasons why.

No judgement either way… just interested in hearing different parents’ thoughts and experiences. 🤍

15 months behaviour

Hey mums. I am struggling bad with my little girl at the moment. she is going through a stage where she will scream at anyone who looks at her. She’s also biting people and biting herself when she gets angry or gets told no. Definitely the terrible twos come early.

Stopping bottle

My 2.5 year old is still drinking the bottle( normal milk) which I know he shouldn’t but it’s only once at night to sleep as I have a 4 month old and it’s difficult to put them both down, how do I stop the bottle?

Please help - breastfeeding first time mum

The first 2 nights with baby I’ve had to set alarms to feed her as she would happily just sleep all the way through without waking. Tonight she’s doing the opposite🤣
I’ll feed her, put her in her next to me, within 2 mins she’s crying and showing hunger ques. So I feed her again…the process continues. She’s been in and out of this next to me about 8 times now. I don’t think it’s got anything to do with hunger I think it’s just comfort because she will happily stay sleeping on me. (Bed sharing isn’t really an option as we only have a small double bed + share with our dog, it’s already too cramped so I really do want her to be able to sleep in her own safe space). I’ve got her in a love to dream swaddle too to try to settle her but doesn’t seem to be helping. Anything else I can try ??
