C section at 37 weeks

Hi everyone. I’ve been advised to go for a planned section at 37 weeks. This is due to a low lying placenta that hasn’t resolved. I don’t mind having another section (it’ll be my second), but worried about any implications on baby. I’ve heard that they’re more likely to experience breathing difficulties after a c section at that stage as opposed to 39/40 weeks. Anyone had a c section at 37 weeks and encountered this, or have a positive story?

The reason it is done early is to prevent you going into labour naturally which could be dangerous for both you and your baby.

I know at 36 weeks they give steroids to help boost lung strength but at 37 weeks they are classed as full term.

If you have concerns then ask if the steroids are an option for you to take prior to put your mind at risk.

I have the same issue and will be told tomorrow if the placenta is out of the way now. If not I have been told a 36 week c-section is what they will insist on 🤞🏻

My first was born via c section at 37+1 due to growth restrictions. I was originally taken in at 36 weeks and given steroids for his lung development, but after further tests they decided it was best to wait until 37 weeks as they’re classed as full term then so not prem. He’s now a very healthy 3 year old and he didn’t have any issues at birth at all, he was just tiny.

I had my baby girl at 37 weeks and had no complications she was perfect.

Had mine at 37 wks had steroid injections to help with lungs due to growth restriction but she was fine. Didnt need any help from nicu. Was on special measures unit as she kept dropping body temp and sugars but it was more a monitoring than intervention. Went home a couple of days later but I think that was more due to her size than when she was born

I had mine at 37+1 because of placenta previa. He is a healthy baby boy and is now nine months old. He was considered full term and was on CPAP but only for a very very short time.

Yes, I have a TAC and can only deliver by C-section; my perinatologist didn't want to risk my uterus rupturing by waiting to term. My baby went straight to the NICU onto a Bubble CPAP, and I didn't get to hold her until I was cleared a couple of days later. She was the biggest baby in the NICU at just over 7 pounds and was there for 8 days. She's thriving now and has no remnant issues at 11 months.

Mine was born via c section at exactly 37 weeks due to a few different issues. He spent a week in the NICU for fluid in his lungs and then he developed a small pocket of pneumothorax. He is now a healthy 16 month old and is 88th percentile

Both of mine were born c section 36 and 37 weeks. I’m a type 1 diabetic and it makes late stage pregnancy difficult. First baby low fluid and 2nd large baby, They both had colic but, perfectly healthy otherwise!

I had a c-section at 36+6 when my waters broke. I have twins and there were no complications for them or me

Yup bang on 37 weeks. They offered me some kind of steroid injection to help with the fluid in her lungs or something but I declined that - she was perfectly fine and healthy, no issues what so ever.

C-section insecurity

Just wondering if anyone has any advice?

I'm 14 weeks postpartum after an emergency C-section and struggling to not hate my body. My scar is wonky and has a kink in it, I have the C-section shelf which is massively messing with my suspected long term body dysmorphia and I overdid it on the exercise which has made my belly more swollen than it has been. I avoid looking in mirrors because of all of this.

I want to exercise to like my body again but don't know how to do it without making it worse? Has anyone else struggled like this that wouldn't mind talking about how they dealt with it to love themselves again?

When do people think baby will come?

My daughter came at 41+5! Is that likely to happen again this time or is it likely he could come before the due date? What do people think?
