Induction

All experiences are very different... however for me, from induction to 'going into labour' I.e contractions for over 1 min and at least 3 within ten minutes, was about 8 hours after having had the hormonal pessary. However labour in total lasted 3 days and ended in an emergency c-section at 10cm dilated.

I was induced at 38 weeks also first pregnancy and it was a very long process. Ended up with an amniotic fluid infection, baby also got the infection which was one of the reasons we ended up having an emergency c section. Was in hospital 10 days in total because of the infection that was caused by the induction. I personally wouldn’t agree to it again but eveyone is different. I hope you have a better experience! X

I was induced at 39 weeks. When they put the ballon in my waters broke so they couldn’t let the induction take as long as my body needed and ended in an emergency c section. If I have another baby I think I’ll just opt for a c section. But not every one has this outcome xxx

As stated above, everyone is different. I won’t go into all the details however I went in at 39+ 5 on the Monday and she was born on the Thursday, I only got to 4cm dilated and ended up with an emergency c section.

Next time I won’t consider an induction and will opt for an elective c section if the decision for baby to be out needs to be made

I had the pessary and within 23 hours my waters broke contractions started and after 3 hours baby was born vaginally. No issues

i had the pessary placed at 1pm and my daughter was born at 11 am the next day! so mine was quite speedy! but they can range drastically, to even a few days before active labour even begins. also to add my body was not showing any signs of progression into labour and i was only justttt about 1cm dilated the lady said if that - it just happened to work very quickly on me but that said it was also quite intense for me i believe its due to the fact my body was not quite ready xxx

I think it depends on the type of induction and why you need it. I was induced due to PROM and it was about 24 hours all in. Gel at about 11pm then hormone drip started about 6am the next morning. Contractions started pretty quickly but pretty much felt like period pain at first. I was pretty immobile anyway due to being hooked up the drip and having regular antibiotics, so I ended up having an epidural more because it was miserable than unbearable. It allowed me to get a bit of sleep. I ended up pushing only for about 15 minutes and she was born about 11.30pm. I wouldn't choose it again if I could avoid it but it also wasn't that bad, definitely not a horror story.

I was induced with my first due to pre eclampsia. I was admitted on the Sunday evening and had the pessary early hours Monday morning. Had that in for 24 hours and they managed to break my waters early hours Tuesday morning. I had the hormone drip and was in labour for 4 hours and gave birth to my daughter naturally. I will say I had my waters broke at 1 cm but if that failed then I would of had to have had the pessary in for another 24 hours xxx

I was induced at 41 weeks - pessary went in at around 3pm and I went into labour just before midnight with very strong contractions, emergency c section because baby was in distress but he was 9 lbs 14 oz with a 40 cm head so no way would I have had him naturally anyway!!

I was induced at 40+2 days with the rods. No progression after 24h. Therefore I was induced with a pessary. I started to have contraction 7h later and 23h later started strong contraction. I was only 2cm dilated. I was taken down to labour. They had to break my water, gave me drips. After 24h I was only 8cm dilated. Baby was pressing on bladder and I was not loosing liquids. I ended up with an emergency c-section.
For me a 4 days process, an emergency c section and then I stayed 3 extra day in.
At children groups I heard of many women with similar experience to mine.
It wasn’t what I wanted, but now I have a beautiful baby boy.

I was induced at 40+5 with the pessary, it came out and I had another put in. Then had the 'second' pessary the following day (they count the replaced one as still the first one), then the day after had my waters broken for me (turns out my other pessary had also come out but I hadn't realised and we only knew because the midwife couldn't find it 🤣). 4 hours later I was fully dilated ready to push but baby moved, was breach and diagonal, and I was rushed to theatre for an emergency caesarean

I was induced with the gel (not very much happened) and then 24 hours later they broke my water and gave me the oxytocin drip (this was after my hind waters broke at 37 weeks) - I was 2cm dilated when they broke my waters and my boy was born 3.5 hours later! It was so speedy, I couldn’t believe it! The gel didn’t hurt at all, neither did them breaking my waters really, it was all just uncomfortable. And then it was just labour, so it hurt but I’m a first time mum so I have nothing else to compare it too and it’s pretty much what I thought labour would be like anyway! I had only had gas and air and when I asked for an epidural it was time to push 🤷🏼‍♀️
