Does gentle parenting always work?

Do you believe in gentle parenting with autistic children, or do you sometimes have to be stricter and actually discipline them?
We’ve always been extremely gentle with my son, but lately, especially since I had my second baby, he’s started hitting and pinching constantly. I’ve tried everything, therapy, redirection, sensory strategies, all the gentle approaches.

Today I lost my patience and put him in timeout and not in his room as I always do because it’s not working, I locked him for one minute in the bathroom in the dark. And honestly? He stopped hitting and pinching all morning and I am shocked.

It’s made me question whether gentle parenting is always the answer with autistic children…

With a new sibling especially a baby there is avoidance, jealousy, overly involved aspects. I parent my 5 year old the same as my other 3 children. He makes a mess he needs to clean it up to the best of his abilities. He has outbursts, but I believe in time out and not everyone agrees with me. I'm a very neutral parent so I have patience and everyone has days where they're at the tail end of their patience..... You are not harming him if it works and it isn't physical. Everyone isn't going to parent the same way. YOU'RE doing your best and you have this!!!! Especially with a new baby everyone is tired and emotions are running high for everyone right now. If you want to talk don't be a stranger and drop a message.

Maybe don’t do the bathroom just because it could get you in trouble with my daughter who is also autistic tho I don’t do gentle parenting I treat her just like my other kids and when she gets in trouble I put her in her room with the lights out or if that’s not working then yea I put her in another room with less stuff or I just take out certain things from her bedroom for the moment but yea at a certain point gentle parenting just doesn’t work anymore

As an autistic person with autistic kids- gentle parenting is the way to go. My kids are 10 and 11 and we don’t have issues like this. And locking him in a bathroom in the dark even for a minute sounds traumatizing.

Um don’t do that, locked in a dark bathroom alone? I understand being fed up and at the end of your tether but you need to find other things to help. They will also just become desensitised to it over time and it will stop working you’ll end up having to keep doing more and more extreme things, do you have any professional support in place?

Gentle parenting is not permissive parenting. It does not mean you don't discipline your child. It does not mean that you don't set rules or boundaries and that there are no consequences for their actions. It just means the approach to discipline is different. We take the time to explain to our children what they have done wrong, the effect their behavior has on others and what the consequences will be for their actions. It differs from the "Because I Said So model" where children are just expected to act blindly and mostly out of fear. It also typically means that you don't physically hit your child.

Gentle Parenting does work but you guys dont understand most of the gentle.... is Consequence Parenting. It simply.means to not give a child a certain reaction but enforce rules and boundaries meaning if they make a mistake they have to pay a consequence

Only shouting works for my son. Talking gently, redirecting, consequences are a waste of time

Pram Help

My baby has just turned three months and has started to get more aware of what around them, and sometimes when I take them out in the pram they are wide awake and looking around, I use the flat basket at the moment but I started on really quick trips that last no longer than 10 minutes use the cat seat so they can look around, well with the pram I got the seat section but as my baby can't sit up and can only hold their head a tiny bit during tummy time, what do I do?
Photo shows the pram I have.

Nappy Deals

Just to let people know who don't know, Morrisons has a deal on Pampers nappies, I got the 50 pack of size 1 for £3 from £8. Also Tesco does a deal on Pampers if you get click and collect or delivery, I think, photo below. I also got the Pampers app which is worthwhile. I just thought I let people know to help save money because it does get expensive.

I want to stop co-sleeping 😭

I literally don't know what to do. I want to stop co-sleeping but it is a nightmare. As soon as I place my baby in his bassinet he'll start screaming bloody murder, or roll onto him belly and wake himself up, or sleep 30 minutes then wake up. It's a battle every night and eventually I'm exhausted and give up. He wins and gets to sleep next to mommy. I don't know what to do. 😭 He sleeps perfectly fine on his own for naps, just not at bedtime. Any advice?

Post partum sex

Hey, I’m just wondering how long it was until people felt ready to have sex again after giving birth? Preferably would like to hear from people who gave birth vaginally and possibly people who tore as well. I feel like I’m ready but I’m scared it’ll hurt because of my scar… (in no way is my man pressuring me at all, this is all me😂)
