Anonymous post — looking for honest opinions because I’m not sure if I’m overthinking this friendship situation.

I recently had a baby, and I’m trying to figure out how to balance having a newborn with maintaining my friendships. One friend had been talking about potentially getting together this weekend.

A few days before bringing up the plans, he told me that he had a sore throat. He said he hadn’t gone to the doctor or gotten checked for anything, but that he had taken some pain medication and was feeling fine now. I understand that a sore throat can be something minor and I’m not saying he was definitely sick with anything contagious. But with my baby being a newborn and not having all of her shots yet, I’m naturally more cautious about illnesses and exposure.

Because of that, I was hesitant about the plans and said something along the lines of “if that’s alright.” I meant that more in the sense of making sure the plans worked for everyone, not that I needed permission to make decisions about my own baby.

He responded:

“You added ‘if that’s alright’ — that’s what I asked if it was for y’all & trust me, I’m fine lol.”

I wasn’t sure how to take that. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but the “trust me, I’m fine lol” sounded a little defensive or irritated to me.

I explained that my baby is still very young and doesn’t have all of her shots yet, so I don’t want to take unnecessary risks. I also explained that even my own mom recently didn’t come inside because she wasn’t feeling well. My mindset has basically been that if someone has recently been sick, I’d rather be cautious with my newborn than potentially regret it later.

Since then, I haven’t heard anything back.

The bigger issue for me is that this isn’t happening in a vacuum. This is someone I consider a close friend and someone who is supposed to have an important role in my baby’s life. Since having the baby, I’ve noticed that I’m usually the one initiating contact and sending pictures/checking in. I don’t necessarily expect someone to constantly ask about us, offer to help, or make everything about the baby. I know everyone has their own lives. But I guess I expected a little more effort and interest from someone I consider a close friend.

So now I’m questioning whether I’m being too sensitive because I’m newly postpartum, or whether my feelings are actually reasonable.

On one hand, I don’t want to make a big deal out of someone saying they’re feeling better. If he genuinely feels fine, maybe that’s all he meant.

On the other hand, if someone had a sore throat only a few days ago, didn’t get checked out, and is now wanting to be around a newborn, I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the parents to be cautious. And I don’t feel like I should have to defend that boundary.

Would you take his response as completely innocent, or does it sound dismissive/passive-aggressive to you?

And after I already explained myself and he hasn’t responded, would you reach out again, or would you leave it alone and let him make the next move?

I’m genuinely looking for unbiased opinions. If I’m overreacting, tell me. I just don’t want to ignore my instincts about my newborn or keep chasing a friendship where the effort doesn’t feel mutual.

I think you might be overthinking a bit, but you don't have to justify anything when it comes to your baby. Most people understand that if you're sick, even showing the slightest of symptoms, you stay away from a newborn. If the friend doesn't get that, well, he'll either get over it or he won't. But it's a matter of your child's safety and you just have to stand firm.

She’s only had one vaccine and the hep was supposed to be for next month, but if he even went to urgent care, instead of jsut taking Tylenols/ibuprofens, I would feel better because how we may deal with simple colds/sore throats could be the one time that it is contagious or has effects o my newborn. Just seemed to have a lot of push back from him(her godfather) but I also feel like I would regret it even more if something were to happen to her health instead of regretting him coming over this weekend which is why I just asked for next week. But the pushback I just didn’t appreciate because I would never go against how safe she wants to be with her baby, let alone only in the world for only over 2 weeks. I wouldn’t personally want to risk it myself if it were the other way around

Do not feel bad for wanting to be extra cautious with your children. He said he felt better after taking pain meds, and while that is fantastic, that could be masking the pain that may still be there. Do you know if he is contagious or not? In this situation, maybe not. In any event, it's better to air on the side of caution. An adults minor sore throat can be completely different for a baby. One visit is not worth it. Postpone to another time! He should understand.

Stand firm and know your choice is what is best for your child's well being.

Pram Help

My baby has just turned three months and has started to get more aware of what around them, and sometimes when I take them out in the pram they are wide awake and looking around, I use the flat basket at the moment but I started on really quick trips that last no longer than 10 minutes use the cat seat so they can look around, well with the pram I got the seat section but as my baby can't sit up and can only hold their head a tiny bit during tummy time, what do I do?
Photo shows the pram I have.

Nappy Deals

Just to let people know who don't know, Morrisons has a deal on Pampers nappies, I got the 50 pack of size 1 for £3 from £8. Also Tesco does a deal on Pampers if you get click and collect or delivery, I think, photo below. I also got the Pampers app which is worthwhile. I just thought I let people know to help save money because it does get expensive.

I want to stop co-sleeping 😭

I literally don't know what to do. I want to stop co-sleeping but it is a nightmare. As soon as I place my baby in his bassinet he'll start screaming bloody murder, or roll onto him belly and wake himself up, or sleep 30 minutes then wake up. It's a battle every night and eventually I'm exhausted and give up. He wins and gets to sleep next to mommy. I don't know what to do. 😭 He sleeps perfectly fine on his own for naps, just not at bedtime. Any advice?

Post partum sex

Hey, I’m just wondering how long it was until people felt ready to have sex again after giving birth? Preferably would like to hear from people who gave birth vaginally and possibly people who tore as well. I feel like I’m ready but I’m scared it’ll hurt because of my scar… (in no way is my man pressuring me at all, this is all me😂)
