1year health visitor

Had our health visiting 9m-1y, and was quite surprised with some things that I got told to change, but mainly was surprised at the fact that my health visitor told us that we had to feed her bedtime bottle 30mins before brushing her teeth as the milk softens the enamel, did anyone know this? Because of that she suggested that I change her bedtime routine so that my daughter doesn’t associate the milk with sleep and makes it easier for us to give her the milk earlier. What do you guys think? If you want I can add in the comments other things that surprised me.

I knew about the milk and enamel. I think it’s if a baby is always rocked fully to sleep, they can develop a sleep association with rocking. When they naturally wake briefly during the night — which all babies do — they may look for the same conditions they had when they fell asleep. But the same can be said with anything. Your baby can create strong associations to any repeated behaviour. Rocking isn’t bad if it works for you and you don’t mind waking up but it does make sense what you were told. The same can be said with playing white noise at bedtimes, babies may become dependant on wanting to hear what’s familiar if always they are used to white noise. With bathing I think you know your baby best. For my baby, bath time isn’t a wind down method before bedtime, it’s a play time fun activity so I would stimulate my baby before bedtime if I have her a bath right before bed. I also breastfeed my baby to sleep because this works for me

Yeah I felt like my 10 month HV meet was a bit unlike I imagined.

I said she has food from pouches and I was immediately told to stop doing that and feed her my home cooking because it's better for her (I take on 100% of looking after her and hardly eat anything myself because I don't have time to do it) she also took this as meaning it's all I feed her so she was surprised when I explained that she happily eats things I do have a chance to make and is doing fine with BLW.

I was told I could change it so she just has two bottles a day and could go down to 400ml total. I asked then what the threshold is for then needing to give vitamins, to which she informed me it's 500ml. So she told me to make a change without explaining what I'd also need to do. Completely ignoring the fact that my daughter is still drinking the milk and very much wants it.

I was told it's better to make her scream and cry when trying to brush her teeth than not. Which really didn't sit well with me.

I left hating the appointment

I’m in shock (but also sadly not surprised…) Some of this advice is wild!!!!! God forbid your *literal* baby gets used to being in your arms and rocked to sleep! Then the bath timings?! Live a little 🤣 Don’t get me started on the “child abuse is fine if it means clean teeth” who are these 1950s health visitors?! Just awful!

Baby moisturisers

Are you putting moisturiser on your babies/ toddlers? I never did as neither my oldest or youngest has particularly dry skin. If so do you have any recommendations?

Need advice

My daughter is 4. I’m a SAHM. My daughter has been saying hurtful things when she is mad and it’s only directed towards me. She never says mean things to her dad or to her little brother. She will say things like “daddy is my favorite he always plays with me”. “Daddy is the boss you are an old lady”. “Daddy is the best you are not”. Like where is she getting this from? Is this normal? I try to tell her not to say mean things but she will just continue to repeat whatever hurtful thing she said before. It’s been like this for a month now and I need some help here any advice?
