I recently became a stay-at-home mom, and while I’m incredibly grateful that I’m able to be home with my little one, I’ve been struggling with something I didn’t expect — not contributing financially anymore.
I know that being home with my child is valuable, and I’m so thankful that my family has made this possible. But I can’t help feeling guilty that the financial responsibility has shifted almost entirely onto my husband. I want to feel like I’m contributing to our household in some way, even if it’s only a little bit. ❤️
For those of you who are stay-at-home moms (or have been in a similar situation), what are some realistic ways you’ve been able to bring in a little extra money from home?
I’m not necessarily looking to replace a full-time income. Even making a little extra each month to help with groceries, bills, savings, or just taking some of the pressure off would mean a lot to me.
I’d love to hear your ideas — especially things that can realistically be done from home while caring for a young child, without needing a huge upfront investment or a traditional work schedule.
Thank you in advance! 🥹💜 I’m just trying to find a way to contribute while still being present for my family.

You're contributing by supporting your husband to make money while you look after the child you both made. I assume when you both made the decision for you to become a SAHM you discussed the finances and he was able to cover all necessary expenses? Do you have full financial transparency? I feel me being at home does save some expenses as well- I can cook healthy meals from scratch, make lunches, I have the time to get good deals on clothes on vinted, I sell on the stuff we no longer need. I bet there's a lot you do that makes his life easier so he can concentrate on his job. So my advice is to try to reframe your thinking.
I have been on this app a while and have not seen any actual good ideas for earning money whilst also being a present SAHP other than craft/baking ideas but there's not much in that and there needs to be existing skill. Just because you're not earning money doesn't mean your contribution is not valuable. Also be wary because sometimes scammers comment on these sorts of posts as well 😬

My husband is adamant we are a team. A team has different roles played by the team members. His is earning the money, mine is doing best by our daughter.
He has just said what we do is the hardest job in the world and society has got it so wrong putting all the glory on the person bringing in the money.
Bringing up a happy healthy child is what I bring to our family, what can be more important than that?!

i felt the same way. i felt bad not contributing financially + it felt so weird just not making money in general. i was used to making money and being able to just get something if i wanted it. i can’t offer great advice for work, since i haven’t been able to find anything that’s ACTUALLY good. i did uber eats for a while and then started spark. in my area, i was able to make a lot more with spark compared to uber eats. but it’s so much wear and tear on the vehicle. i recently stopped doing spark for that reason. it does help when you need money fast, but long term it’s just not great.
i feel like finding what works best for your family’s schedule will kind of help. you could try overnight part time, working weekends, or trying to find a work from home job. or maybe even side jobs from people you know if there’s anything available.
ones i have found that are a bit harder are creating digital products to sell online, thrifting clothes and selling on vinted, plato’s closet, etc.

I totally feel how you feel and I understand where you're coming from, but then I think about how I'm the one to get the kids to and from school, go grocery shopping, clothes shopping when the kids need something, I keep the house clean and make sure EVERYONE gets to their appointments and 1million other things. I make sure everything in our house can run smoothly while my husband can (currently heal from a work place head injury) earn the money.

Is he struggling? Do you have enough during the week for your social outings? Mine is petrol, parking, entry to places, brunch. The average week my social spending is about $250. I changed my mindset to not have guilt because I’m doing everything ELSE. He gets a hot dinner most days, and a nice hot packed lunch from the leftovers of dinner. His coworkers are asking every day “what you get for lunch today?” While they get their second tuna sandwich for the week. A sahm’s work when experts estimated if everything we do were to be outsourced values $150/k per year. Thats more than most of the men’s wages. We ARE working.
Overnight too. When sick too. No breaks unless we schedule breaks and tag team w the partner. Unless he’s struggling and needs funds from you, sahm don’t need to work. The agreement is that he’s providing financially and we provide literally everything else.
He refuses to stop having an inappropriate relationship with his “best friend” who is a woman that has repeatedly told both of us she does not like me, she does not want to be my friend, and she is waiting for me to leave so she can be with my husband. She makes weird comments in front of him about how good she is in bed, and she enables his bad behaviors that damage our family.
I have asked him to stop talking to her but he says nothing is going on. I said this is about respect. He said he’s known her longer than me, and I’m just being petty and jealous over nothing.
I said he always picks her side over mine, always goes to her instead of me, and frankly I’m over it. I’m the wife and this is not a competition. If he cannot respect our marriage and continues to have an emotional affair with this woman I will leave.
He told me to go. 😂😂 I am so angry rn.

I have caught a sickness bug off my 2 year old and really struggling at the moment as I also have a 6 month old baby and my partner is working long shifts. I have been offered a hand from my in laws to take my toddler for a few hours whilst I try and get some rest but feel very 50/50 as in my head I do not want anyone assuming I don’t look after my kids when I have them 100% of the time. Probably just sound silly even thinking this, what’s your opinion?

My little one will need 3 days of childcare when I return to work next year and we have already reserved her a nursery spot for these days. My mother in law has previously commented about wanting to have my daughter for 1 day per week but for various reasons I would prefer for my daughter to attend nursery for all 3 as currently planned, which is what I feel most comfortable with right now. My dilemma is the upset/ tension this would potentially cause and that my partner doesn’t seem to think it will be an issue and has not had this conversation with her. I can sense she is waiting for this but he feels otherwise.
I also can’t help but wonder if my reasonings are unreasonable or not for this decision.. or if they’re totally ok as I’m her Mum and I have to be comfortable with it. My partner is ambivalent on the decision and doesn’t mind either way. My reasons are…
1. I would like my daughter to have consistency in her week and not to be between my care, a relatives and then nursery (I’m aware many do this without issue)
2. I would like the flexibility of being able to drop off and pick up my daughter when I’m able to and early if i desire; it is also 5 minutes down the road rather than 25 minutes
3. My mother in law has been overly involved with my niece and tries to take over parenting (in my opinion) which I do not want to happen with us
4. I would not feel comfortable to challenge my mother in law if needed around the care she provided like I could with nursery
5. I don’t feel my mother in law is respectful of our parenting decisions and suspect she would go against these and seek to undermine them if looking after my daughter
6. I would rather my mother in law’s time with my daughter to be on a more informal basis; it will still be promoted, just around our lifestyle and what works for us
Has anybody made this decision for similar reasons?

My wife and I are have a 3 year old daughter. My mother in law is clearing out her conservatory and wants to give some of the baby toys amd equipment to her son and his girlfriend who's baby is due in February. Of course that's up to her when it's stuff she had brought.
But I don't think it's fair we should be expected to give her the stuff we brought for her daughter that weve kept at their house because we are planning on having more children in the near future.
She says why wouldn't we buy our future child their own toys.
We're not made of money, we live within our means but my wife has disabilities and I'm her carer so we only claim benefits (UK based).
Am I being unreasonable by not letting my brother in law and his girlfriend have our stuff?

Hi Toddler moms,
What are you guys doing to keep screen time low? I’m trying to find more stuff for my one year old to do. I don’t mind him watching certain shows . I just don’t want him watching tv all day. We do the obvious things like read books and play in the house without the tv on and go to park.
