My little one will need 3 days of childcare when I return to work next year and we have already reserved her a nursery spot for these days. My mother in law has previously commented about wanting to have my daughter for 1 day per week but for various reasons I would prefer for my daughter to attend nursery for all 3 as currently planned, which is what I feel most comfortable with right now. My dilemma is the upset/ tension this would potentially cause and that my partner doesn’t seem to think it will be an issue and has not had this conversation with her. I can sense she is waiting for this but he feels otherwise.
I also can’t help but wonder if my reasonings are unreasonable or not for this decision.. or if they’re totally ok as I’m her Mum and I have to be comfortable with it. My partner is ambivalent on the decision and doesn’t mind either way. My reasons are…
1. I would like my daughter to have consistency in her week and not to be between my care, a relatives and then nursery (I’m aware many do this without issue)
2. I would like the flexibility of being able to drop off and pick up my daughter when I’m able to and early if i desire; it is also 5 minutes down the road rather than 25 minutes
3. My mother in law has been overly involved with my niece and tries to take over parenting (in my opinion) which I do not want to happen with us
4. I would not feel comfortable to challenge my mother in law if needed around the care she provided like I could with nursery
5. I don’t feel my mother in law is respectful of our parenting decisions and suspect she would go against these and seek to undermine them if looking after my daughter
6. I would rather my mother in law’s time with my daughter to be on a more informal basis; it will still be promoted, just around our lifestyle and what works for us
Has anybody made this decision for similar reasons?

All absolutely fair reasons. My in laws have ours for 2 days a week and it’s lovely but we definitely struggle with number six, especially as we have no other ‘easy’ childcare options. Also number 3 can be a struggle. You could always tell a white lie that nursery have said you have to do three days to keep your spot 👀

All completely understandable and fair reasons!
My mum literally wouldn't leave me alone about this throughout my pregnancy, it was super stressful.
The way I kept putting it to her is that there is a reason that childcare PROFESSIONALS exist and are paid to do this. I think she had this idea in her head of looking after this cute little newborn and I kept trying to get her to see that the reality would be her running after a toddler all day. I could 100000000% see her regretting her decision pretty quickly but either being too proud to tell us or suddenly leaving us in the lerch because she couldn't physically or mentally do it anymore. I said I'd rather she came whenever on a social standing to see her granddaughter.
All of this said, as it's your husband's mum he should be the one having this conversation. But don't give in!

I am really struggling with my MIL sometimes . The way she raised her sons is crazy and their generation was so different. We have the similar situation like you , and we have decided to have our baby with her once a week.
I have some of my best child hood memories with my own grandma myself and she was crazy ( she got me and my brother to smoke a cigarettes when we’re 3 & 5 , so we would be so traumatised and never smoke again) and once she forced me to drink coffee to stay up until my parents came home because she didn’t want to be alone haha but I was close to my grandma and the very best memories of my childhood .
So I’ve decided to try to keep my worried a side and trust my daughters grand mother . And my daughter seem very happy to have days with her grandma
I have just learned to speak up when she goes against our wishes . Set clear boundaries is important. But for the children and cost of child care it’s very helpful ❤️
He refuses to stop having an inappropriate relationship with his “best friend” who is a woman that has repeatedly told both of us she does not like me, she does not want to be my friend, and she is waiting for me to leave so she can be with my husband. She makes weird comments in front of him about how good she is in bed, and she enables his bad behaviors that damage our family.
I have asked him to stop talking to her but he says nothing is going on. I said this is about respect. He said he’s known her longer than me, and I’m just being petty and jealous over nothing.
I said he always picks her side over mine, always goes to her instead of me, and frankly I’m over it. I’m the wife and this is not a competition. If he cannot respect our marriage and continues to have an emotional affair with this woman I will leave.
He told me to go. 😂😂 I am so angry rn.

So yesterday really tested me because come to afternoon my daughter would not go down to nap and when I did get her down and put her in her cot about five to ten minutes later she would wake up crying, I couldn't settle her at all, rock in my arms meant pinching and jerking her arms about, screaming till red in the face, put her in the cot to calm down the both of us, she cried like never before, gave her a bottle around half seven, fought her to sleep as she would not go in the moses basket, her bouncy chair or her play mat, ate my dinner cold and crying. So I took upstairs after an hour, she went for it then, so I took her temperature they say on the NHS website it's under the arms so it came back with a temperature I wasn't sure what to do, I just wanted to give her Calpol and get to bed, 111 did us an out of hour apparently and apparently she's either got the start of a bug, cutting her first tooth or having a off day, so yeah now I feel like I overreacted. Had my neighbour over helping and I am now sat here feeling like an idiot

I have caught a sickness bug off my 2 year old and really struggling at the moment as I also have a 6 month old baby and my partner is working long shifts. I have been offered a hand from my in laws to take my toddler for a few hours whilst I try and get some rest but feel very 50/50 as in my head I do not want anyone assuming I don’t look after my kids when I have them 100% of the time. Probably just sound silly even thinking this, what’s your opinion?

Me and my partner are due our little boy anytime. When we found out we were having a boy he did say that he wanted him to be circumcised. I’m white British and he is black british - Nigerian. I asked him what his reasoning was and he said because he was and I explained that because it’s something completely new to me that he would need to do some research and come back to me etc. I spoke with his mum and friends who have had their little boys done in regards to this and did do my own research too in the meantime. It was never a complete no for me and completely respect his background and culture and open to discussing all options, however it was something that I felt controversial on due to being a first time mum and being worried if something did go wrong.
Since, nothing has been mentioned, apart from a conversation about 8 weeks ago where he said to just leave it, I said to him I’m not saying no, I just need more of an understanding and for his reasoning for it doing to be valid too and that we’d look into it together. I’m 37 weeks today and no further conversation has been had, I’m wondering whether to still mention it, or just leave it as if it was something he was so adamant on wanting then for me he would have gone and done the research as I know they say it’s best to do it once baby is newborn. Any advice on where to go from here as I’m slightly anxious I’m going to end up being the blame for it not being done and I know his mum was quite pushy for it too. I just don’t want it to come across like I was a straight no and was being disrespectful to their culture, it was more I wanted him to fully understand the process of it too and as a parent you need to go and research these things beforehand.

My wife and I are have a 3 year old daughter. My mother in law is clearing out her conservatory and wants to give some of the baby toys amd equipment to her son and his girlfriend who's baby is due in February. Of course that's up to her when it's stuff she had brought.
But I don't think it's fair we should be expected to give her the stuff we brought for her daughter that weve kept at their house because we are planning on having more children in the near future.
She says why wouldn't we buy our future child their own toys.
We're not made of money, we live within our means but my wife has disabilities and I'm her carer so we only claim benefits (UK based).
Am I being unreasonable by not letting my brother in law and his girlfriend have our stuff?

Hi Toddler moms,
What are you guys doing to keep screen time low? I’m trying to find more stuff for my one year old to do. I don’t mind him watching certain shows . I just don’t want him watching tv all day. We do the obvious things like read books and play in the house without the tv on and go to park.
