My nipples are like razor blades and I want to cry every time she latches on.
I have done everything I’m suppose too, I make sure she has a big open mouth, she leans her head back, I make sure the nipple goes to the roof of her mouth and I bring her head right in.
I’ve even had a breastfeeding specialist come out and help me.
Nothing I do works and I’m crying. I don’t want to do formula, I do express but even that hurts my nipples now.
I desperately want the connection of breastfeeding and I don’t know what to do.
Anyone experienced this or advice?
My baby is two weeks old.
I use silver cup shields and put breastmilk in them too.

Are you applying nipple balm after every feed/pump? Lanolin saved my boobs

Have you tried nipple shields? They helped me to continue breast feeding as I began to dread the feeds and felt the same as you! - they have helped so much and I’m looking forward to feeding times now

Try putting breast milk on the nipples after each feed and let it dry. Also cold compressed helps. It will ease off.

Silverettes saved me. Expensive but worth it. I wear them pretty much 24/7 and my nipples healed very quickly. Maybe worth a try. It’s a difficult journey and we’re only just figuring it out, 12 days PP, and I still give out baby a bottle of formula here and there to take the pressure off me🫶🏻 wishing you the best. X

Try using nipple cream before and after feeding, it helped me

Lansinoh nipple cream saved me

Has baby been assessed for a tongue tie? I’m sorry your struggling and I hope it improves for you quickly

You definitely need some lanolin based nipple cream to help with the trauma and repairing. My first had a tongue tie and it caused a lot of trauma. Nipple cream helped so much. It would really be worth asking your local feeding team to be seen and ask for them to check for a tongue tie

My expert midwife nipple cream is really good!

I really understand the struggle, I have been in the same situation until a few weeks ago, I have cried so many times... I ended up booking an appointment with a lactation consultant who gave me solid advice on latching and suggested swapping to a rugby hold until the baby grew up a bit. It has made a big difference and my nipples slowly started to get better. Baby also got better at latching (after a few more weeks you will see they start searching for the nipple much more so they need much less head guidance) so after a while I was able to swap hold again. Most mums I know have been through this so please don't give up! You might also want to give your nipples a rest and pump at least for some of the feeds until they heal...

I am so, so sorry you’re in this much pain. Feeling 'razor blade' pain when your latch technique is already solid usually means something hidden is going on underneath the surface:
Vasospasm: If your nipple turns white/purple after a feed, blood vessels are constricting. Apply dry heat (a warm heating pad or warm hands) the second baby unlatches.
Posterior Tongue-Tie: A hidden tie deeper in the mouth lets baby open wide, but causes them to clamp down on you with their gums.
Thrush: A yeast infection causes deep, burning pain during feeds and pumping. Try keeping your nipples completely dry for a day or two, as trapped milk in silver cups can worsen yeast.

Are your nipples blistered/cracked? I breastfed my eldest until she was 13 mo, four years ago, and currently EBF with my 4 week old, both of whom luckily don’t seem to have tongue ties - but the pain at the beginning is real. It now doesn’t hurt me anymore at all, at 4 weeks in, and it hasn’t done for a couple of weeks.
I too had our latch checked and everything. Sometimes it is a case of the nipples hardening up and getting used to it. It DOES get better girl ❤️definitely use Lanolin though. If your nipples are blistered and you’re two weeks in, I bet you’re about to hit the point where it starts to hurt less. I’ve got everything crossed for you
Without providing any context I know it's hard, but my husband and I are in a bad place. I want to repair things. Please just check this and see if it's fair/makes sense/is clear about my intention?

Just out of curiosity when did your LOs start sleeping through the night?
I know sleep regressions exist and each baby is different but wondering if there is some kind of average.
Our LO is 6 weeks and goes between 3-5h at night, aware there is still a way to go!

My little one is five months old and she refuses to sleep during the day. If we manage to get her down she’s either in the pram or after a feed. At night she feeds and then sleeps but wakes after an hour and a half to feed again or screams. Her wake windows can be over four hours long. I know that’s too long and I’m exhausted and emotional. Any advice would be appreciated.

When did you start to put them in their cot in their own bedroom for daytime naps?

Please help! My 1.5 year old hasn’t stopped biting at daycare. If she bites 3 more times they are kicking her out. Please any suggestions help. I’m at a loss and I don’t want her to lose her routine. Her 3.5 year old sister goes to the same daycare and is thriving.

I know wet nurses used to be a regular thing, but breastfeeding other family members children? Maybe not common practice but what do we think?
