Hey everyone. So, I've been diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 34 weeks and I'm trying not to panic, so I would really appreciate hearing about anyone who's got it/had it before and what it means practically for me and baby boy/the birth. It's my first child so I'm just overwhelmed 😠any advice or reassurance is appreciated!

There’s a group on Facebook that I joined gestational diabetes uk I think and that really helped me manage my sugars and keep diet controlled, it explains for pairing and stuff so for instance I love a sweet treat in the evenings and I was able to have a freddo and along as I had it with a handful of nuts my sugars and my fasting sugars were absolutely fine. Deffo read up on food pairing x

i was diagnosed at 33 weeks they started me straight on metaformin and insulin a week later! it was my first child aswell. it was a lot to handle. i was induced at 37 weeks due to mental health around everything that happened and developing a needle phobia. i hope you can control it with diet. my birth ended up in an emergancy section but completely unrelated to the gestational diabetes. she was initially measuring on the 94th centile when diagnosed but managed to get her down and she was born on the 75th centile.
the only thing i will say is she was born with a lot of fluid on board, she was re admitted due to weight loss and we really panicked. it was later told to us that this could’ve been due to the diabetes even though i was made to feel like the weight loss was my fault. sorry i don’t have a better story for you but for me as hard as it was it was worth it once she was here. i know everyone says that and it doesn’t help at the time but honestly she is incredible x

Exactly the same as me. I failed the post drink bloods at 7.9. I have found bread is my issue.
I have found it very helpful to eat veg then protein then carbs during my meals.
I was really panicky when I first got diagnosed but remember it’s not your fault and it’s a learning curve. Try one type of carb at a time and test. If it is high then have less next time. Also gestationaldiabetes.co.uk has great recipes and meal plans

I was diagnosed at 24 weeks. I ate high protein low carb and managed to stay diet controlled. I had a vaginal birth with no interventions at 41 weeks and my girl was 7lb 12. All very normal and boring tbh!
Are the risks are as bad as they say they are

The hospital called me and told me to come in at 7am instead of 7:30am, however they also said I would be coming in with 6 other women and the list won't be made until we are all admitted (understandable). The theatre is open from 8 or 8:30am until 7:30pm and they don't do electives on the weekend. What are estimated odds I will actually get to meet my little one tomorrow? Just worried as I am not allowed even water from 7am on

Hi all, I started back on work Tuesday after a year off, my lg is 10 and half months old I also have a 5 year old who’s in y1.
I only work 3 days a week Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. I honestly feel so run down already and I’ve only done my second day I honestly don’t know how I’m going to do this for the foreseeable it’s just constant. I have so much to do yet I’m sat here eating cake and a super noodle for my tea because I don’t have the energy or time to cook my self anything.
I’m a hairdresser and I just feel mentally and physically drained already. Does it get easier

I went into triage for reduced movement and after feeling reassured on ctg. A random dr comes in and tells me I should deliver today as at term.
Like wtf - midwife said it’s protocol for them to say that
I’m so annoyed
I have C-section booked for Tuesday so part of me just wants to go with that now

Woke up this morning with cramps, usually only get them at night and gone by morning today I woke up with them still and had them all day. Had a nap and woke up and their worse now. It’s just a constant pain I wouldn’t say there’s a pattern to it, it does fluctuate in how painful depending on what I’m doing. Just went food shopping and the pain is so bad and all in my back now. Don’t know what to make of it or whether I should be worried… 😅 I’m 39 weeks today.
