Induction

No two inductions are ever the same! You tend to only hear the horror stories! Mine was 3 attempts and then after the 3rd I had a sensitivity reaction to some gel, tbh I get it with shampoo so this wasn’t a shock to me! I then had my waters broke cause baby was stressing and I have to admit this all came from outside factors, and the fact he was a big boy and probably cooking too long, so he got stuck on my sciatic nerve. I was 2cm dilated, the popped my waters, and 6 hours later he was born!🩵 I honestly wouldn’t read all the negative stories, I’d roll in with an open mind and go from there! Just speak up when you need to be heard, and do it loudly!! They are busy wards, they are running around like crazy, so if you need help ask until you get it x

My birth story was a mix of natural plus induction as my waters broke at 36+5. Not alot happened so they scheduled an induction at 37 weeks (they said this was better as before this would be classed as pre-term). I didn't realise there were 2 bags of waters but apparently on checking both of these had popped. So from then on they offered me the oxytocin drip and this really got things moving. They slowly increase it so basically the contractions became more regular and painful like the real thing. I have been told this can be more painful and intense than the natural way but that was my first baby so have nothing to compare it to. Initially I was able to deep breath and use a birthing comb, then a TENs machine, then gas and air. In the later stages I kept experiencing the foetal ejection reflex. It was like an involuntary push that my body seemed to be doing, I genuinely couldn't help it lol. There are so many forms of induction but that was my experience. I view it as pretty positive really ❤️ ..

I had an induction as I was late with my baby so I had no choice and she was born at 42+1 weeks. I’ll be honest my induction went absolutely fine. Everyone’s experience is different though. I took the tablet option as they gave me a few different options and I was absolutely fine for the full day (went into hospital at 11am) and me and my partner went for a long walk and I was absolutely fine until my waters broke and my contractions started at around 7:30am the next morning but I was still able to walk around until about 12pm and then finally I had my baby at 5am the next again morning. I was supposed to have a water birth as my plan so sadly my plan didn’t go ahead but I have absolutely no complaints about the way the induction went but I did end up having a epidural and the other injection they can give you, I took that once too. Also, I did unfortunately have a 3rd degree tear but I do think that was my own fault rather than to do with the induction. Hope this helps!

Just to say you don’t have to have an indication if you don’t want to. I was being pushed towards booking one, I also had diet controlled GD, and refused. Had a totally spontaneous labour at 41w exactly.

I did. They started and an hour later my doctor came and broke my water and I didn’t feel my contractions til an hour before I gave birth. I was in labor for 12 hours.

I mean I think my induction went fine, it did end up in a C section but again that was completely fine. The labour ramped up quick and was painful, after 12 hours I ended up having an epidural and well it was quite a nice experience after that.

Everyone I have ever spoken to that have had a ‘bad’ experience says they didn’t care about them as long as baby came out safe and I think that is the mind set helps a lot. No matter the labour or delivery the baby is coming out and hopefully mother and baby stay safe, your in the best possible place/hands.
