I love my husband to death, and for the most part our parenting techniques are the same but sometimes I worry about how he will be as a dad. For context we have a 6 month old together and we also have my 4 year old who is his step son. My husband is the rough, alpha male, doesn't put up with bs from anyone type of man. And I want my boys to be tough and ready for the world so I'm glad that he is. But sometimes the things he says I don't agree with when it comes to how kids should act and be treated. Like for example I was telling him how 1-2 year olds will a lot of times cry when their parent gets home even if they were just fine and playing because they forgot that they weren't with mommy/daddy the whole time and they're still getting used to being detached sometimes. And he said "If *6 month old* does that, I'm gonna get mad at him and be like why are you crying??" Like seriously?? A one year old?? And he's not joking. He says things like these are men they're not meant to cry! And one time I said we had to validate my toddlers feelings and he just laughed in my face, like legit laughing he thought that was hilarious. He thinks I baby them. And maybe I do but they're my babies. My boys I can't help it. I do punish my toddler when appropriate and I am stern with him, sometimes even lose my temper if he's getting on my nerves but I don't like when that happens. He wants me to be just a stern and rough as him but I believe there needs to be balance. A mother needs to be more nurturing and comforting in my opinion. And while I do believe the father should be more stern sometimes I think he takes it way too far. Sure my toddler listens to him and does what he says the first time out of every other adult in his life, but it's out of fear. And I don't want my boys to fear me. I don't want them to fear the home that they live in either because their father is a tyrant. A part of me feels bad for him because I know that it all comes from how he was raised I'm sure. His mom would beat him like crazy growing up and sometimes his dad too. And I'm sure his feelings were never validated as a child so that's his only viewpoint of how parenting should he for young boys. He also tells stories about how he would bully his cousins and other kids till they cried and he laughs about it like it's completely normal and he wants his kids to be just like him. But I just don't know how to go about it with him. I do want him to be stern with them, but not taking it too far. But he doesn't believe he takes it too far.

i grew up with this type of father and i wish my mom would’ve left him sooner. i do not speak to him and if my mom were still with him i wouldn’t be speaking to her either. his “parenting style” only taught us fear. fear of him and fear of our mom because she would allow him to treat us his way. i never felt safe at home and i still struggle to feel safe at home even as an adult because it was never a safe place growing up. please don’t let him put your babies through this.

Unfortunately this is literally what you wanted from him. You WANTED this macho manly man behavior because you think it's "tough". Its not. Its incredibly unhealthy and abusive. This is what the outcome is. Abusive males who pass down abusive tendencies and trauma under the guise of "toughness". Your fundamentals of parenting clearly are NOT the same, this is what it boils down to when you get down to it. He was abused. And because he sees absolutely nothing wrong with how he was raised and the issues its left him with, he will abuse these kids because he thinks it will make them the same type of man that he is. The same type of man you wanted. You cannot MAKE him change. You cannot make him WANT to change. And statistically you won't leave so threats of it and then backing down from it won't do anything either.

I know someone who has this dynamic. She thinks she has a great husband but criticised how he deals with his kids. Now both her boys are grown ups and barely have a relationship with their dad because of how he treated them.
We get these meals for when we don’t cook or just don’t have time to cook, our 1 year old really loves these and will eat them! I’m not sure if anyone gets them, I know it makes things a little easier! But I know a lot of people are against these meals. But she’s fed! And when we have supper she eats what we have, she also tries new food she likes fruit too so she’s not just eating these all the time!

I swear he’s up to something in that damn store! EVERY DAY THIS MAN IS GOING TO WALMART! He always saying he gotta get something, he needs this . yadda yadda. I’ve even suggest just get it delivered or shipped. We have Walmart + . Yes he comes with something. But he usually calls me after work or whatever. The minute he gets there I don’t hear from him till he’s walking through the door. Spending a good 20+ minutes in there. And if he’s like most men who don’t like shopping, especially long. Ur in and out right? 😭 am I over reacting? Do I sound crazy???! Causeee like who are u seeing there everyday?

i’ve been with my bf for 7 years now. recently the last year he cheated on me with a coworker. he travels for work and is gone for a month at time. today he told me we shouldn’t be together anymore because we’re not happy. bc he’ll never change. he said he doesn’t enjoy talking to me because of my brain capacity. claimed i’m boring. i have nothing to talk about. even though we agreed from the start id be a sahm mom. i haven’t even attempted to get a job bwcause no one wants to help me babysit and he doesn’t have time to. that he can only watch her twice a week and maybe after work but id have to work my schedule around his unpredictable schedule. it’s sad that ive wanted to get married since we had her and he doesn’t want to. so he got me pregnant. now doesnt like my body, thinks im a boring person and all i do is complain about our kid and him not helping me enough. he never compliments me when i get ready. and tells me why would i want to live that like. it’s so sad how i gave up everything for him and this is how he pays me

My husband is obsessed with the house being tidy all the time and this is causing a serious strain on our marriage. I m dealing with 3 kids under 5 and I cant seem to keep up .somehow no matter how I clean it’s just not enough. Even when i think have thoroughly cleaned he somehow finds something. He doesn’t do anything to help too cos he is the sole provider.

My son will be 4 soon so I have to start thinking about school etc. I was never really interested in the homeschooling route, but as he is getting older it appeals to me more. Mostly, with raising a young man, I feel like the social influence and behavior they can learn in school is less than desirable. The flexibility of the schedule also seems like it might be a better fit for our family. My husband is a firefighter and I work per diem so we do not work M-F 9-5. However, I am nervous because I already get overstimulated at home with him and my 6 month old and I don’t know if it would be a good fit of it causes more stress.
Tell me, why did you choose to homeschool or use the public school systems and what has been your experience? Or did you choose one and ultimately move to the other? Any insight would be great. 😊
