I’m in a dilemma, and am unsure what to do. So my partner and i have a 2 year old together, we both pretty much live at my mums place and we give her money towards rent each month as she is struggling, my partner stays less as sometimes he’ll stay at home due to work, (his family home is 1.5hr from mine) ever since I’ve had my son I wanted to keep him at home until he was 3 and just find a job in the evenings, I’ve got this job currently it’s school cleaning and I do enjoy it, it’s decent pay and means I get a bit of money to treat myself at the end of the month, I do get Universal Credit and get Ā£150 from my partner each month but never have enough to get myself clothes and that. My partner is a labourer and has started moving around the country for work, so my mum has been coming home after 9hours of work a day in the construction industry and she’s tired, she cares for my son while I’m working as my partner is either still working at that time or at his, he also goes to watch his team at football twice a week which is also near him, I’ve been saying I don’t want my mum to do this forever as I can see she’s so tired from doing all this, and my MIL says I’ll have to find a different job in the mornings and put my son into nursery, I wouldn’t want him going full time so it would have to be part time, 3 days a week, we’re going to be moving out soon in the next 2 years and barely have any savings, My partner says we both need to be saving I don’t earn enough currently but my partner earns just under Ā£3000 a month and he’s only 25, but the fact I’m having to leave my job (this also happened with my last evening job before this one) makes me upset I’m not asking him to leave his job I’m just so tired and exhausted, and he doesn’t want to hear it, I don’t have any friends or social life, I’m really struggling and work and being with my son is the only thing going for me and I now have to give up work, and try and find a job that fits around my partner. šŸ˜ž

Sorry to be harsh but he sounds like he's being incredibly selfish. Going to watch the footie twice a week? What the hell? He ought to be with his baby whilst you go to work in the evening. It sounds like he has it absolutely made whereas you are struggling immensely. I wouldn't move in with this man. In fact I would end the relationship with him altogether. It's not feasible for him to be living 1.5hrs away from his son or constantly moving. Why hasn't he looked for a job to be near to you or to stay with you and your mum? If you split he can have visits and that would lighten your load considerably. Bear in mind if you save Ā£6k you won't get UC at the same rate anymore. And once you move in with him you won't get it at all. You're the one risking everything here. Put the onus on him, say "this is our problem, how do YOU suggest solving it?" and his answer will be very telling, because he probably thinks it can just stay as it is šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø idk this arrangement seems really unfair, has it always been like this?

Nanny

Has anyone ever paid for a nanny to come to your house just to do the morning so you can get a bit of sleep?
My baby wakes 5 am every day, Monday to Sunday, it’s exhausting. When she goes to bed I have to get everything done quickly, sometimes I don’t even eat just so I go to bed early so I can get up with her at 5 am. It’s slowly killing me. I haven’t done anything for myself, watched a movie, or even had a pamper night in months.
I am happy to pay for, just on a Sunday, someone do to a couple of hours with her just so I can have a little relax and chill, my anxiety is at an all time high and I’m just shattered. Is this a thing or am I making up jobs now?? lol.
I have tried everything to make her sleep longer, you name it, I’ve done it. I understand this comes with being a mum, but just every second Sunday just so I can have a bit of me time, just to recharge my batteries…

Would you take your 2/3 week old to a family birthday event?

My husband’s uncle is having a big birthday trip (2-3hrs drive away) for two nights, there will be between 20-40 people, maybe more, and young kids who attend day care (nothing wrong with this but I’m just cautious of the germs around a newborn). I’m heavily leaning towards not going as I’ll probably still be recovering, and together with the drive, germs and numerous family members who don’t give a shit about boundaries feels like a no no. Curious as to what you would do?

Self employed mums, do you put your nanny through your books?

A friend of mine put her nanny through her business because she said without the nanny she wouldn’t be able to work- so it’s a work essential.

I’m self employed my daughter goes to nursery but with my second up coming baby we may need help at the home so I can return to work quicker and this never crossed my mind to do this.

Thoughts?

Fish fingers under 1?

Would you give / have you given your baby shop bought fish fingers under the age of 1? I know it shouldn’t be a first choice and would be better to make my own , but as there is less than 0.2g salt in a Birds Eye fish finger and the ingredients are relatively simple, I assume every so often is fine?

I sometimes make them for my 3 YO for a quick dinner and would be easier to not have to do something else for the baby!
