I’ve applied for maternity allowance and got my letter through today saying I would get the least amount. However I also got a letter asking me to pay towards the national class 2.
I have now done this but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if they then got the full amount after paying the cost they asked for. Thank you!

Following this. I’m self employed, but I just moved to UK in Dec and its just one of many admin ive yet to get to.

I had this with my little girl back in 2024, I paid the 'voluntary contribution' I think it was just over £40 then phoned them 2 days later to check they'd updated my payments and they confirmed i was entitled to the full amount then. Just make sure that as soon as you go on maternity leave you tell them as they won't pay you until they have a solid date and I had to wait 5 weeks for a backdated payment...

If you're self employed but have a limited company you could claim SMP rather than Mat Allowance just in case that applies to any of you. If you're Sole Trader I believe it's just Mat Allowance.

Yep, exactly the same - offered the minimum then called HMRC, had to pay £45 in contributions now got the full amount. Only took a week or two after paying to get confirmation by txt then letter I was getting the full amount.
This morning I had to call an ambulance because my 2 year old went pale and was struggling to breath. They came and gave him oxygen and steroids. They said it was a pretty bad case of croup cough and booked a follow up app later on today to see if he needs another dose of the steroids. I called my boss (the owner of the small buisness) to tell her I won’t be coming and she went crazy on me saying she has a life too she needs to take her kids to swimming class and make dinner. I’m shocked at how she reacted and compared her situation to mine. In general that place is really understaffed and I’ve been working for weeks without an actual day off, we also get lunch deducted from our pay but we have to eat while working due to being understaffed. I’m currently pregnant and because my son was ill the past few days I’ve not been sleeping so today I started hallucinating and felt like I’m gonna pass out few times during the day. I am so mentally drained from this place being toxic and I feel like I can’t quit cause I won’t get any maternity pay later on, I’m thinking to report her but I don’t know where

Why is it so difficult to make lasting, ride or die, bestie friendships as an adult let alone a isolated SAHM. It feels defeating. It’s even harder when you’re an introvert on top of being isolated. Has anyone else experienced this?

My daughter is 8 and she just has such a hard time maintaining friendships. She isn’t into boys yet and she doesn’t like to be sassy or mean at all and unfortunately she hasn’t been able to find many friends her age that don’t just bully her ☹️ I’ve tried meet ups I’ve invited people from co ops I’ve taken her to church classes and other gatherings and I’m such at a loss. Any advice?
