What to do when dad disconnects

Hi, FTM to an adventurous 9m daughter and her dad has revealed that he doesn’t feel the warm fuzzy feeling as she is too dependent on me.

I EBF and he doesn’t like how she cries when away from me and keeps saying I need to give up work as we are codependent.

I try to make them have time together but he just doesn’t want to anymore and switches off to the toilet or his phone.

Can people help as it’s impacting me doing anything for myself now (he has to bring her in when I shower or she’ll cry). I don’t want this type of attachment as I’m going work soon

He is using weaponised incompetence, and quite frankly not being bothered with his baby over his phone simply because its not "easy" is bull****. He needs to parent.

Have you thought about comby feeding?

This sounds really hard for you 😔. It also sounds hard for him, some men see this as a rejection or that the baby doesnt 'like them' and they take that rejection harder and can disconnect. It can really affect their mental health. Could you try combi feeding? It might also help give you a break as it sounds like you dont get one x

It's normal for men to take longer to bond. But he needs to put the work in now rather than choosing the easy option and just bringing the baby back to you. You should be able to spend 20 mins showering, if she cries she cries. He doesn't "have" to bring her in. Eventually she'll get over it. It took 2 years for our daughter to become really happy and attached to my husband and he put the damn work in, showed up every day and did his part to support me and be a husband and father. Not a coward who hides in the toilet. Now I will say without further context I would approach this with care not anger because giving the benefit of the doubt he may be really struggling and getting depressed about this and that's why he's shutting down. He can do better. Tips- go out together places with lots of people, all 3 of you. She'll hopefully remember that she likes him a lot more than strangers. If she's crying with him, she cries, you talk about ways he can play and redirect.

He needs to make the effort more to bond with her rather than giving her back to you so quickly. Maybe when she starts to cry with him give him tips on what he can do to distract her/do things she likes to do with you for example play with her fav toys, hold her in certain ways, etc. perhaps also think about combi feeding so they can bond through him giving her the bottle. Good luck! X

Husband

My husband says I’m weak minded and he wants a divorce.
I’m pregnant and we have one child together.
I currently am a stay at home mum.

I told him I’m not weak minded or jealous.
All this coming out so harshly is pure evil.

I said divorce but let me find a job first.
He did say to abort the child too.
He is happier without me.

He says first pregnancy I shown no hormonal symptoms like I am now.

Also he says never seen someone argue with their parents like me. I said my dad is a wind up and mum is hot headed.
I still speak to them after we do argue.

I said give one good quality of me.
He says I’m good at cleaning.
I said what about intelligence?

He did not say anything.

He said I hope after abortion you are fine.
I’m like wtf is wrong with you?
I am a fucking strong woman, I’m not weak minded or jealous.

Because of me he don’t have to do drop off and pick ups from nursery.

I actually will probably do an abortion as don’t want to have it with this man.

I want to leave him asap and take my son with me.

Anyone overwhelmed?

I have a 16 week old daughter. Don’t get me wrong. I love being a mum and she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me but I find myself getting so so bored and find being with her all day so monotonous. I have tried to do things to break up the days I go on lots of walks I try and go and visit my parents or I have visitors round. I’ve joined a baby sensory class. I’m planning on going to a library session but it just still feels really boring and repetitive. I had a very active and busy job before maternity. I really struggle to get anything done for myself even down to basics sometimes like self-care or tidying the house. I find I really struggle as it gets to the evening because I’ve been with her all day and I’m so tired and I know that I’m only gonna get an hour or two of relief from my husband and then I’m gonna have to do it all again overnight does anyone else feel like this? Or have any advice on how I can get past the feeling of boredom and monotony but also the feeling of just being quite overwhelmed by all at times?

Feel so alone

Hey, i think I just needed to have a vent, ive not always been the best parent to my other half but we both decided to have a baby and now shes here shes the most amazing baby ever shes so happy and so content and I love her to pieces, but my partner has literally done nothing he says hes struggling to bond to her but hes not doing anything about it, since we have been home from the hospital I have spent every last waking moment plus sleepless nights with our daughter feeding changing and everything in between, and i have spent the last 3 weeks sleeping in the sofa due to him being full of anxiety of every noise she makes, I know this is his first child and I know some fathers take time to bond with their child but it just feels like hes not willing to do anything about it, I have practically 0 family other than my 77 year old grandma and my friends are living their own lives and are doing their own thing, and just when I think we are making progress by talking and stuff it just feels like its 1 step forward and 5 steps back, I just feel like im doing this all alone and ive tried to voice all this to him but he doesnt seem to understand, im sorry for pouring all this on here but I just feel so alone

Teething calpol

If youre giving calpol for teething how often are you giving them? Our 16wo is showing signs and weve just given for the first time and it seems to have instantly made a difference. Hes been sucking on muslins and chewing his fingers for a couple weeks but this totally changed his mood. Dont want him in pain but also dont want to be giving every 4hrs for weeks too either?

Uneven backyard?

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue. My baby was born January this year so next summer I want to have a play area set up in the backyard for him- our front yard is very small as we live in a culdesac but our backyard quite big but is very uneven and almost like a hill. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what did you do? Eventually I want to have a swing set but obviously I can’t do that on a hill
