At my 16 week appt my midwife askednif i had any other question (after a ling list of question in an appt that felt more like signing up for a moetgage) so i asked what ive been thinking about alot. Birth.
I wanted to start the conversation about birthing options, as I've been wondering about a doula, and wanting to start to look into my options (which i feel takes time, especially when working fulltime).
My midwife swiftly said we dont look at that until 36 weeks. I then said that feels quite close to the due date of around 40 weeks is that really enough time, and she said yes its enough time and just didn't want to talk anymore about it. My appointment time was also up, on the dot.
Just wondered other people's experiences so far with their midwives?
This is my second appt and both times ive left thinking that was a bit awful, do I have to go to these? But also sad because I was hoping to have some support.
Im a ftm, newish to the uk and have no family here and a couple of friends, and no experience with the NHS (although ive heard the system is similar to home) so overall dont feel that settled and am starting to worry.

They tried to tell me with my first normally the birth plan appointment is 38 weeks, I had him at 35 clueless because nothing had been discussed. I’ve said it need to be done earlier this time and it’s not getting argued with, I’m gonna write a list for my 25 week so I’m not hitting the 3rd trimester completely blind just incase. It is awful they insist on doing it so late especially because I’ve been told with both mine I’d have to deliver at 37 weeks, so before a birth plan appointment :|

I haven’t really spoken about birth preferences yet (currently 20 weeks) other than if I was hoping for a similar birth to last time and where I wanted to deliver (we have a main hospital and smaller birthing unit here). Last time we definitely discussed things earlier than 36 weeks, and I’m glad I did as I gave birth at 37 weeks! I think about 28 weeks we started to have a chat about it so I could look into things etc. Sorry your appointment didn’t go as planned, remember you can always ask to see someone else if you’d prefer! X

I am 19 weeks ftm so not far ahead of you and haven’t discussed birthing options yet, however in terms of your midwife appointments, you are not unreasonable in expecting to feel supported and listened to. If your midwife is making you feel uncomfortable and awkward about asking questions, I would look into how to get a different one. At the end of the day, this is your pregnancy and especially as it’s your first you are bound to have a million questions (as we all do!) and you should be able to ask them. Pregnancy is an amazing thing but it’s scary too! Your midwife is supposed to keep you informed and at ease as much as possible!
My midwife has been amazing, so kind, bubbly and supportive. There’s always the possibility that yours was having a bad day, however the appointments we get are limited so you want to make the most of them.
Maybe have a look at local antenatal classes as there may be other people there that feel the same/have experience with Doulas!

I also haven't had this discussion yet (I'm 17`weeks) I have been researching lots and have started writing down my birth plan and preparing by myself.
I was planning to bringing it up with the midwife around start of 3rd trimester. Does seem a bit early now but 36 weeks also feels awfully late considering anytime after 37weeks is full term.
I've only had two appointments so far too, first one was the book in appointment so it wasn't with the lady who will be my regular midwife. So really only had one with the midwife I'm going to see regularly at first I felt she was a bit stand off ish but then through out the appointment she became more chatty and made me feel reassured definitely helped that my husband is a super social person as he just started asking her questions about random stuff lol

Nope it doesn’t get discussed this early. In my first pregnancy it was discussed at 36 weeks, this time it’ll be around 32 weeks because of my previous c-section

I’ve asked for an elective c section. I asked at my very first appointment - they needed to get a consultant appointment in well in advance and was glad we spoke about it then
looking for people who have had more positive inductions the second time round 🫣 i go in next week to get induced i was induced with my first but it took 5 days for her to come , i had the pessary then the gel twice , 2 sweeps and then got my waters broke at 1cm and put on the hormone drip which i was on for 13ish hours 😭i went in at 38+2 this time ill be 39 and as much as it wasn’t that bad other than being in for so long my little girl is autistic and im dreading being away from her for too long 🥲so im just looking to hear positive stories from people being induced the second time for some hope 🤣🤞🏻

Im 40 years old, pregnant with my first and 39+5 days. Last week I had my last consultant appointment they recommended I be induced via ballon last week. I declined that as I want a natural birth without any intervention. I was then booked To see a doctor yesterday and CTG. I again declined being induced and wanted further monitoring till my due date 25th September. I’ve still got no signs of labour and have another scan and ctg booked tomorrow. They have also offered me a sweep tomorrow to get things moving and I’m still unsure if I want this. The only reason for sweeps and ballon induced method is my age. Doctors say if I want a sweep it has to start tomorrow incase it doesn’t work then they need to do another one or else will go straight for induction on Monday.

My baby is 7 weeks old tomorrow, I had a natural birth but got a second degree tear and had other stitches for a vaginal wall repair. I'm mostly healed day to day but the sitting position when sat on the toilet causes uncomfortable pain and I can only sit for a minute or two before having to stand up which is obviosuly hard whilst trying to go to the loo😩
I had a step stool so my feet are flat on something as I'm short and they don't touch the floor but is there anything else i can be doing to nake it more comfortable or is this just my life now
