I need to have a rant and would welcome supportive messages back.
I’m having money troubles with my partner and it’s getting really difficult. I am currently taking all the financial stress while on maternity leave as he chose to leave his job at the end of August. He’s now going back to his job but not until mid-end of October so the strain is on me. He also wants to take a two week trip before he goes back to work but hasn’t shared any money and is expecting it to be paid by me…
Every time I raise money or go to talk to him about work he flips out, shouts and then goes quiet and refuses to talk to me.
I’m at a loss as what to do because I just need him to understand how I’m feeling, it’s a lot of pressure with a 2-month old.

Sorry to hear you’re going through this. It sounds like he’s really not on the same page as you, and can’t afford a two week holiday (what is he thinking?!). I think you need to put your foot down and say no you’re not in a position to.
The challenge is the trip is to see his family so I’ll get the guilt of that and they will say things to me as well.
I’m finding it really difficult that I can’t have a normal conversation about money and finances without him reacting so badly and then shutting down the conversation by staying silent. It has started to make me rethink whether we can be together. I love him so much but if we can’t ever talk about money and he’s not providing anything for us then I don’t see how we can last as it can’t all be on me. I’m on maternity pay ffs.

Can you afford to fund the trip on your mat pay? If not then his family can't make comments as it is a fact that there isn't the money. I would calculate the exact amount of lost income and point out that amount needs to be saved. I'd also add in the household income has dropped to £x so that needs to be saved.

Sorry Incog, your partner sounds like an absolute loser.
He CHOSE to leave his job? Huh? Excuse me? Was this decision discussed with you given you became the breadwinner by default on your paltry maternity pay? Why did he place that burden on you when you have literally just had a newborn?? What a prick 🤦🏽♀️
I don’t think this is the man for you if he is treating you like this. He has no respect. He is using you at the most vulnerable time in your life. Me personally I would tell him it’s over and start putting your money towards getting out. Go on gov website to see what benefits you’d be entitled to as a single mum.
As for his holiday, tell him to do one. What he’s doing is called stonewalling and it’s abusive as hell. You are dealing with a pathetic man child who can’t even provide. He won’t change. Things will only get worse. Make the choice to leave for your child too. They deserve a happy mum, not one stressed by a joke of a man using and abusing her.

These are money struggles caused by a selfish individual, do you think he's going to improve being responsible as your child gets older?

He doesn't seem like a responsible man to me. He chose to leave his job knowing you were going to be on Maternity leave. He would of known you were going to be on reduced wages.
If he badly wants a two week trip then he needs to go back to work and fund the trip himself. Why should you have to suffer for his own bad choices.

Why did he not seek universal credit for the time he was out of work? Hope you’re not financing that trip either!

Don't pay for the trip, he should be helping with the money, it should not be all on you. Money etc should be talked about freely in any relationship and as your savings if he's not giving you anything back then don't use them. I had loads saved before I met my now husband and I did use a bit to buy things our house when we bought it but he's paid back more than I gave, if you get what I mean, he's the breadwinner but I tell him what I need and he will move funds around or find a way to get what I need, he is very black and white with money but he never do that to me. Sorry. But if he wants to go then he pays as well, there two in a relationship
My husband works nights and sometimes he’s gone all day and all night so it’s just me and my eight month old. No one comes to visit even though his family lives close by and I’m just exhausted. He doesn’t sleep well overnight so I’m just constantly sleep deprived and now he is crawling and constantly just wants to get into everything that he shouldn’t have quite literally anything a fan and end table the dog bowls so if I put him in his playpen, I feel bad he’s in the playpen for too long, but then I let him out and he’s constantly just going for every single thing he shouldn’t have
I guess I’m just curious what everyone does when they’re by themselves with their baby lately. I feel like I’m just getting depressed and I’m not cut out for this. I’m constantly just stressed and tired and also feel guilty that I get frustrated because he’s just a baby he’s also constantly pulling and wanting to stand on me and pinching me all of the time I’m touched out by the end of the day.
And to make it worse by two dogs who I loved very very much as soon as he was born I just can’t stand them the barking the getting in the way it’s all just getting to be too much and I know I should be grateful for everything I have, but exhausted

I want to leave my partner, I cannot do this anymore, it’s affecting my mental health and making me feel physically unwell.
I feel completely unsupported, emotionally, physically, the constant criticism and looking down his nose at me every single day, I absolutely resent him. We have a 14 month old, and I am also currently 18 weeks pregnant with our second, we were due to be moving at the end of the year, hours away from my family and friends to be closer to his work and the thought of it is seriously triggering me, I just feel like I will be completely isolated with 2 young children and no support.
I will not lose anything by leaving, I can stay in my house I have now and I would get support financially as a single person, but the thought of being a single Mum to 2 under 2 and going through the rest of my pregnancy alone while caring for a toddler is also deeply upsetting to me too. This just isn’t what I wanted for myself or my children, we have been together for 5 years 😢
I just wanted to hear anyone else’s experiences who have been through the same thing, and did it work out for you? I have held on in hopes things will change, but evidently to me now, they just never will! Please help x

My husband has been back to work this month and it’s been the hardest. He somehow thinks because he has work, I’m the primary caregiver and that’s why I have leave from work. He wants to sleep in on weekends, play video games until 4am (because night time is the only time for himself to do things for him), go to the gym and then show up at 2/3pm….is this normal? I’m going to lose my mind.

Last night, I found out that my husband has been unfaithful to me in circumstances that I find extremely distressing and humiliating.
It appears that when we travelled to my hometown on holiday, he either went to a brothel or contacted a sex worker online. What makes this particularly devastating is that it did not end there. He continued communicating with this woman, developed feelings for her, sent her a significant amount of money, and apparently made plans and promises to bring her to the UK. He was planning to eventually leave me and our young child and have her come here instead.
I only discovered all of this last night and I am in complete shock. I feel deeply betrayed and humiliated, and at the moment I am struggling to process what has happened or even think clearly.
I have not slept at all since finding out. I have been experiencing severe anxiety, constant nausea, diarrhoea, palpitations and a feeling of emptiness in my stomach. Despite not sleeping, I still feel extremely alert and unable to switch off.
On top of the emotional shock, I am extremely frightened about my future. I am not financially independent and I do not know how I would be able to continue living in the UK as a single mother or support myself and my child on my own. I suddenly feel as though my entire life, my family and my sense of security have been taken away from me at once.
I am also completely alone here with my young child and I do not have family or anyone nearby who can support me or take over childcare while I recover. I am finding it extremely difficult to cope with both the emotional shock and the physical symptoms, and I need some support to help me get through this immediate crisis.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
