Reception school (don’t judge pls)

Hello mama’s

I feel bad I haven’t sent my eldest 4 year old to reception. The reason I have done so is, he can’t put on his coat, socks, shoes, or trousers. I help with that and it’s my fault because I find it easier to get done with as I have 2 younger kids.

I don’t want my child to be a burden to the teachers and for them to do a job that’s suppose to be a parents job to teach their kids.

I also came from a family where all my siblings and myself started from year and skipped reception as well as nurseries.

I really want to break that cycle but I’m also scared to send him to school. Any mothers on the same boat and what did you do to deal with situation?

Prior to my eldest, I had 3 miscarriages and I’m scared of loss. I don’t want him to get hurt.

I think that’s such a normal feeling. Our children are our world so of course we worry for them, especially in environments where we won’t be present.
However, reception and school teaches and encourages independence. It’ll be a great opportunity for your little one to gain a sense of all these things! He’ll also learn lots of other new things, like socialising, confidence building and speech development. And in hindsight, it will also help ease pressure from you a little.
It’ll be scary and nerve wracking at first, but in the long run you and your baby will thank yourself for it!!

Since Covid some schools do pe days to save time. My son has sen and fine and gross motor skills. He’s always struggled with this. Maybe start practising at home using YouTube videos and make it a game. School will support him however obviously it’s not practical to have 30 kids that struggle with this

Start teaching him at home, chances are the at least of one of your other children (depending on age) will begin to copy too

My daughter is in reception and goes into school in her pe kit on her weekly pe day.

In terms of shoes start practicing, get some that are Velcro only and put a sticker cut in half in each side to help knowing which is which.

Coat try putting it on the floor upside down, getting him to put his arms in and flip it over his head. That's how we taught my daughter since young - works well.

I dont really think theres a necessity to send him to reception if you dont need to? Why do we need to force separation from our children before theyre ready 🤷🏼‍♀️ i certainly wouldnt send my daughter to reception if I didnt have to. He wont be the only kid in that position, just work on his readiness in the meantime

Mat leave disappointment

Has anyone else been entirely disappointed with their sendoff from Work? This is my second baby, the sendoff last time was poor anyway, a quick battered gift and shout out in a team meeting, but I didn’t think it could get any worse. I remember my husband being made a fuss of at his work last time, and thought it was so lovely!

I’ve been there for seven years. They’ve gradually replaced team members with younger and younger team. I’m in a team of about 30 and most are in their early 20s enjoying London life, no one really gets having a baby.

The handful that do have kids, they’re pretty much all uni age, and I feel like they’ve completely forgot what a big deal it is

I finished two days ago, just got some flowers in the post from my team with a pretty generic message about how much I’ll be missed. I see E cards go around for peoples birthdays with bespoke messages from individuals and I didn’t even get that. There was no shout out or farewell messages on the last day despite it being in everyone’s diaries.

I get on hugely with everyone in the team, I feel like a well liked outsider, the strange person in their 30s having kids. And it’s almost felt like an inconvenience to everyone that I’m pregnant. Lots of ‘can you not come into the office more’, really not acknowledging how uncomfortable a long commute is

One person even said to me that I should’ve put in a leaving lunch myself and how nice it would have been. When I first joined the company, these were always arranged by other people and we would have little Work baby showers with games and gifts, they were so cute. Would feel quite self absorbed putting my own Work baby shower in the diary 🙃

It’s all really disheartening. I do the request to send them pictures once babies here, kind of want to delete them all off Instagram to be honest!

Christmas 🎄🎁

Any ideas on what I can buy my daughter for Christmas she will be 6 months old? I know she won’t understand but it’s her first Christmas and I want to make it special and buy her some sensory / development toys 😊

need to rant

my fiancée works full time in hospitality so his shifts aren’t consistent, some are late some are early but how does this mean he doesn’t do anything around the house or even help with baby. he’ll only take my son when he’s sleeping and whilst he’s sleeping i tidy the house and as soon as baby wakes he passes him back to me. i’ve tried to tell him how it makes me feel and it just turns into an argument. i don’t even see him anymore as he’s always playing games with his friends. i feel alone in a relationship. i’m so tired

Friends with another mum but their child is naughty

I’m friends with a mum from church and we both have 3 year olds and we’ve both applied for the same schools for them to go to next year. She has a son and I have a daughter and he’s very naughty. He will make other children cry/ he won’t share toys he’s playing with or he will shout when my daughter says hello to him he will just look away and say no! They have a play kitchen at church and the other day he was playing there and when my daughter went to join in he basically guarded the whole kitchen and toys with his arms so that she couldn’t get to it. Any tips on this? Firstly how to deal with kids who don’t share with your child and how to communicate this to my daughter. Also, would you be friends with a mum if their child misbehaved? It’s not terribly bad but I want to prepare myself now that my daughter will be getting ready for school on how to deal with things like this without making it into a big deal. Bearing in mind they are 3! (Nearly 4)

Baby proofing

Hi everyone my little girl is almost on the move so I’m looking for advice on what baby proofing items to get and where is best to look for them.
I know we need baby gates, cupboard locks and the corner things but am I missing anything?
We also have a marble fireplace and I’ve seen a cover for the ledge on Amazon but it’s £60 so if anyone has any more budget friendly ideas I’m open to ideas.

Tia!
