Did you pay for any private maternity or postnatal services outside the NHS?

I'm thinking of hiring a postnatal midwife for at-home visits and possibly one for the birth, but I'm concerned about the cost. Did you choose to pay for any extra support outside the NHS, and was it worth it for you?

I will also be paying for a NIPT and 3rd trimester scan, costs are adding up.

I paid for a doula. It was definitely worth it

I only got a private 4s scan. But thanks to that scan i found out i had gestational diabetes. Which led me to changing my midwife because she was incompetent and didn't send me for a glucose test when i told her my sad was diagnosed with diabetes.
I think it's a bit too much for the post -natal side . But i think it's worth consulting a 2nd midwife during pregnancy just in case your own midwife missed anything.

Just a postpartum check up, like a mummy MOT but at a general women’s health physio

I did a couple of private scans and then postpartum saw a women’s hospital physio like a mummy mot but it was tailored to my c section recovery. It was £60 a session but to me worth it as really helped me get over some recovery issues I had.

I paid for private scans, private NIPT and a room on the private ward post birth for 3 days/2 nights both times.

For us, worth every penny for a wonderful experience and recovery. I had my own room, own bathroom, own midwife for 3 days helping with feeding and anything I needed, everything done bedside for baby and myself. Husband had a bed, both of us fed and rested. Made a huge difference as we have no family around to help.

For us getting postnatal support from a lactation consultant and a postnatal doula was fantastic in helping us achieve breastfeeding goals and also building confidence/ managing anxiety. We didn’t plan it ahead but I wish I had!

Discrimation at work due to pregnancy

Hi all, I have been facing discrimation at work after I told my manager I am pregnant and that I am going on a leave for 1 year.

Manager told me that he wants to get on a call with HR. I had no idea what to expect. Manager and HR and get on a call and they suddenly tell me out of nowhere that they think I am not performing well and that they would like to put me on a PIP. HR also gave me an alternative option of an exit package.

Does anyone know what the highest out-of-court settlement or exit package payout a company has ever made to a UK-based employee to resolve an employment dispute?

Its a very clear case of employement discrimation (backed with evidence), and it seems like under Equality Act 2010 - there is is no cap today.
With no cap being there, it could ho to any amount.

Frustrated

I truly see now why people get divorced after having a baby. I wish guys knew and understood what we got through physically, mentally and emotionally to bring a human into this world and then having to deal with a newborn

Feeling shit

I know this may sound silly but anyone just feel ‘ugly’ and not themselves. I try do my hair/skincare and get ready for the day but even so just feel and look Ughh. No clothes look flattering, even loungewear. It’s sad because I never take pictures of me and my baby and in my head I always say I’m going to but just never do. Feel like I need to get the perfect shot :( I see so many mums on Instagram/tiktok that look so well and get all these amazing photos with their little one and I just can’t.
