We have been together for coming up 2 years and we have a 5 month old baby girl. He was a great boyfriend and we spent basically every day together and then he had to go back home to live with his parents for a while in Wales and I had to stay in York with mine (personal family reasons on both sides). While we were apart I found out I was pregnant, he was happy, everything good. He would come to the scans and whatnot (as he should) but I had a really lonely pregnancy. Then he got a part time job in Wales and basically just kind of expected me to move there. I did because I didn’t want to be away from him or our daughter. I’m a very social person and he’s not, I’m happiest socialising with my friends and family and have a wide range of friends. He doesn’t speak to anyone but his family who we now live about 10 mins away from. His family are lovely and I get on with them really well but I feel really alone here too. I basically do the whole parenting thing alone. I’m with our daughter 99.9% of the time. He’s made ‘jokes’ saying if I want him to do all the baby stuff he will do it but he would want my maternity pay. I do a lot of meal prepping to make it easier and stress free so all he does is defrost dinner and warm it up and that classes as cooking dinner. He hardly washes up anymore. He drinks 2/3 of a bottle of whiskey most nights. He’s not a bad drunk or anything he just stays downstairs while me and our daughter are upstairs. He’s never done a bath time or a bedtime with our daughter. He has to be asked to do things for the baby and the house. Like have some initiative???!! I understand that relationships are give and take and a huge compromise and that they change after having a baby but I don’t feel appreciated or really wanted. I think he loves me but it’s easy to have me here. He says if we break up he wouldn’t be with anyone else because he couldn’t be bothered to date someone else. We don’t go on dates, no gestures or anything. I just feel like I’m in the way. And I know you’ll say to communicate with him but anytime I’ve tried bringing up moving back to York he makes all my points seem silly and ends up saying “you don’t really want to live in York tho do you?” And laughs at me. I just feel trapped and like I would honestly be happier and more free if I was a single parent because I’m not constantly irritated that he gets his own life and I’m stuck in the house with our baby and no social life. I love him and I want our daughter to have her dad in her life but at what point do I prioritise my happiness? Obviously the ideal situation would be that he changes his behaviour and starts acting in a way that values me and helps more but he prioritises himself over us. Any advice would be lovely💗

Im sorry your going through this but me personally I’ve always told myself if I’m not happy in a relationship I’m not stay. I look at it differently than most. If I’m not happy my child will notice. Also sometimes taking a break apart from your partner is needed. Me and my boyfriend broke it off for around 9 months we both did some growing up apart and came back together stronger than any time before but there has to be some effort being put in. You sound like you’ve asked for help and he hasn’t helped you the way you’ve needed. You shouldn’t seclude yourself from family and friends either. If he wants to be in your life and your kids he will make that change. But sounds like his priorities aren’t on you or your little one. From the sounds of it seems like you already know what you wanna do just want the support to do it. You got this mama do what makes you happy! Because taking care of yourself IS taking care of baby. 🤍

Omg. I hate your experiencing this..but i know for a fact, you’re not the only one. So thanks for being open enough to actual share. Ok, my advice to you is to prioritize yourself. You’re right if you’re not in a great mindset for yourself or your child it’s gonna be all bad if you don’t. I say start stacking your bread 💰💰💰 and if the BS continues then leave. Trust and believe I know it’s easier said than done but honestly actions like that need to be done. You have value, you have feelings, and you MATTER.
Look at it like this say you stay, and thanks just keep continuing how they are your daughter is going to see and probably feel your frustration on why” mommy not happy”. I know you don’t want that.
Think about it.
I’m here for you if you need to talk

Constant argument with my partner on how much is okay to spend! This year I have spent less but by thrifting have still got a similar amount of pressies for her, which he now says it’s both the cost and the amount of presents that bothers him.
I would say I spend approx £100 (slightly less / more depending). Same for Christmas.
Thanks in advance!
