GBS positive + water broke , but no contractions — when did you go to L&D?

My water broke around 8 AM this morning with a pretty big gush, and I’ve continued leaking some fluid since then. I’m GBS positive, but I’m barely having any contractions — maybe just a couple all day.

I’m trying to figure out whether I should head to Labor & Delivery now or stay home a little longer, rest, and wait to see if contractions start on their own. I’d really prefer not to go in too early if everything is okay.

For those of you who were GBS positive and had your water break before contractions started, how long did you stay home before going to the hospital? What did your OB/midwife recommend?

Just to add — I’m really trying to avoid being induced and give my body a chance to go into labor naturally. From what I’ve read, the actual percentage of babies who develop a GBS infection is very small, even without antibiotics. I’m obviously not trying to put my baby at risk, just trying to understand how long it’s reasonable to wait for contractions to start naturally.

I would go now. I was GBS positive and gave birth 4 days ago, they said I would need at least 4 hours of medication and I ended up giving birth after only an hour. Thank God everything was fine when she was born but I definitely wish I could've gotten the full 4 hours for my peace of mind. You really have no idea how fast labor can progress and it's better to be safe

They usually say right away because of the medication

Have you tried calling your obgyn to see if it’s okay to wait it out? I heard that if you test positive they want you in asap to start the antibiotics. But if your obgyn says different than id trust their opinion on it

GO NOW

My dr told me if my water breaks go to the hospital immediately so we can start antibiotics. Now it might be different for me since I have very fast labors, but I’m pretty sure it’s standard to go asap when gbs positive. Having your water broken makes you and baby at higher risk.

You need to go in as soon as you can. When you are GBS positive and waters are broken, the concern is the bacteria traveling up to baby since baby is no longer protected by the waters. Not having contractions yet is all the more reason to go in soon, not a reason to avoid going in. You need to limit length of exposure to baby by moving labor along now unfortunately.

Please go. I have a March 2025 baby. When my water broke, they had me come in right away. I wasn’t in labor at all but they told me it’s super important to go in and get induced to avoid infection.

I went in as soon as my water broke. So should you!!

Call ahead and let them know, they will tell you to go or not

tummy problems after c section

my csection was 10 months ago and since then ive had so many problems with my stomachs, ive had constant diarrhoea and rarely have a normal stool, and i keep getting gastritis (i think) and when i get this its so painful i ended up at a&e the first time because i didnt know what it was and the pain was unbearable for me. between that and the diarrhoea which has made me have a number of accidents (embarrassing) i have found it hard to enjoy motherhood at times because its all started after her birth.
just wondering if anyone eles has had this and what they have done to help. ive got some meds from the doctors for the gastritis and got a test coming up for the constant diarrhoea but im at a lost because everything i eat seems to set one of them off.

Induction prep

I’m being induced at 40+4 and been told to get there at 7am, I’d love to hear how people kept themselves busy, how their day went! Any positive stories? But also realistic stories of not getting seen all day, how it went particularly if your cervix wasn’t favourable… how long it took? Also why is there lots of negativity around the oxytocin drip? Thanks!

Is it odd?

Is it odd that my 6.5 year old boy has only ever been invited to one birthday party since starting school at 4? I’ve asked him if children in his class have birthday parties but he’s not aware of any…

20 week scan

It's my 20 week scan tomorrow! I will be 20+2 ☺️

Feels like it's been a long time coming. Are there any questions or anything I should be asking/looking out for?

I had a private scan which said she was a girl, and I will ask them to confirm if they can 😂

Thank you 🥰👶🏼
