Up until today, boob has always been the answer. Hungry? Boob. Tired? Boob. Upset? Boob. Teething? Definitely boob. But now they are no longer the magic answer.
My daughter started nursery today after having two settling in sessions last week. We had a really rough night last night, which I'd put down to teething because her top front tooth is coming through. She was a bit grumpy this morning and didn't sleep for very long, but she perked up around lunchtime, so I decided to take her in for a few hours.
Then, just as I was picking her up, a notification popped up on the nursery app saying Hand, Foot and Mouth is doing the rounds… and suddenly everything clicked into place.
The spots I'd noticed on her bum and legs this morning that I'd assumed were nappy rash, her poor appetite and, most importantly, her suddenly struggling to breastfeed when she's always been a very enthusiastic boob girl, I now suspect might actually be HFM. 😭 I'm guessing she may have picked it up during one of her settling in sessions last week.
Tonight has been rough. I've already been in to resettle her three times. I've given Calpol, Nurofen and Anbesol (not all at once, appropriately spaced out) and tried rocking, bum pats, shushing, cuddling… basically everything I can think of.
Nothing seems to be working.
She's clearly so uncomfortable. She wants to latch, but then doesn't seem able to settle into it. She's wriggling around on my lap trying to find a comfortable position, and I'm desperately trying to hold her while my arms are slowly giving up on me. 😂 Standing and swaying isn't working either.
She doesn't have a temperature, but she's been a little sweaty, so I've taken her out of her sleep sack and I'm just trying to keep her comfortable.
I can't boob my way out of this one. 😭 I've actually had to pump for the first time in ages because my boobs were getting so full while she's refusing to feed.
Has anyone else been through this with a breastfed baby? What helped your little one when HFM made breastfeeding uncomfortable? Did you find anything that made them more settled at night?
Because tonight I am officially out of ideas and desperately need some new ones. 😭❤️

We had a similar experience… catching it the first week of nursery. I’m guessing your little one has a painful mouth and that’s why she’s struggling? When I was googling for us, it suggested things that are easy to swallow like yoghurt. She might just be hungry but struggling to feed in her normal way.
We all ended up catching it so keep an eye out for spots or feeling poorly too!
My baby naps downstairs during the day but is outgrowing his Moses basket and I don’t really have the room for a travel cot downstairs. I have a next to me crib upstairs in our bedroom as well as a cot in his bedroom but if I move him upstairs he doesn’t seem to go to sleep🫣🤣. Any advice or recommendations for what to use downstairs would be greatly appreciated🫶

First time mama to a 1 month old perfect boy!🩵
For the first 3 weeks of his life doctors ignored me about his symtoms and suspected CMPA (cows milk protein allergy) because im a "first time worried mum" It took for him to start pooping blood for them to listen!
5/6 days into him having his allergy milk, 8/10 of his symptoms have cleared up& i have a happier more content baby!🤍

I have a 10 week old baby who will only sleep when held day or night. It’s ruining my mental health.
I spend hours every day trapped under him in silence with white noise that gives me a headache because I’m so sleep deprived. I feel stiff and sore. I feel lonely, bored and frustrated. Every attempt at transfer just fails. I have tried every trick in the book short of buying a snoo. He absolutely hates the carrier. I feel like a terrible mother because I’m supposed to be enjoying the snuggles. But they feel forced. I’m trapped until he wakes up for a feed and change. Only then I have literally 5 minutes to quickly go toilet or eat something- do a small chore. I have no one who can help and take the pressure off me. Friends are too busy 😢 There is no village so there is nobody to help. Family live far and are dysfunctional af so I can’t even go to them😭😭 We co-sleep, which I hate. I feel terrified I’m going to wake up and find him passed out. I thought I’d break the cycle and never make my son feel like he was difficult to love. But 10 weeks in, I’ve already failed. He’s not choosing to give me a hard time. He’s a baby who doesn’t know how to sleep alone and needs my help, and I’m struggling to meet this need. He has reflux and possibly colic too now which is making me even more sad for him and depressed. I’m not looking for practical advice on how to get him sleeping on his own. Trust me, I have tried every practical advice i have found online so far. I’m looking to vent and for similar stories or for advice on how to cope with the isolation of this mentally, or any words of comfort.
Please I’m desperate.
There seems to be no end in sight.
I don’t know how to carry on like this.

Hi all, I’m 3 weeks postpartum and i’m thinking of switching my baby from formula to breast milk. I’ve only just started pumping but it’s taking so much energy out of me. Does anyone have any advice?

Has anyone experienced constipation with their formula fed LO? Mine is 4 weeks old and formula fed and the last few days he’s really struggling to pass any stools, and is straining and crying when he tries. Today he hasn’t gone at all. I’ve tried infacol which hasn’t helped. Any tips or advice would be really helpful, it’s horrible seeing him in pain.
