At what age is this a reasonable expectation. My daughter is 4 as of August. Shes very smart, but lately we’ve had a horrible time with responsibility, paying attention and respecting boundaries. She is constantly losing things like her beloved toys, and her water bottle, or leaving things in the car then having a crisis because she wants it wherever we are. She is constantly doing the exact thing we tell her brother to stop doing, or not to do then lies about it or smiles like it was a joke. I’ll tell her not to bother her baby sister while she’s asleep or eating, and she will continuously grab her hands or feet while she’s eating and then look me in the eye and tel me she wasn’t. I don’t know what to do anymore..

I'd start now. Start with the basics like getting her to find, pick up, and use her own water bottle instead of giving it to her or finding it for her. Mine is 3, and since before 2, I've been doing things like this - encouraging her to find and keep track of her own things. She can't be expected to keep track of toys she brings to a restaurant or her bottle when we're on an outing or whatever, but I encourage her to find her own things. If she loses a toy, I encourage her to look around the room first and find it herself. She's still learning, but she is getting it. It's a skill they will need for school.

Responsibility with belongings = logical consequences. When the toy is missing. I place the ownership
back on them, no matter how young. Acknowledge the loss, offering empathy. Ask what she plans to do next time to not lose something? “Do you wanna hear what big kids do to not lose their belongings?”
Paying attention: depends on the reason (too many distractions/stimulation, not enforcing eye contact or touch when telling her something, the directions are too complicated, neurodivergence, etc…)
Respecting boundaries. Teach her what she CAN do instead of just what she CAN’T. “I know you really want to see sissy, why don’t you draw a picture for her and surprise her after her nap!” During meal time I would physically keep them seated apart at the table but if that’s not possible, repeat “hands on our own body!”
Saying “don’t” or “stop” or not to do something to a toddler is like telling someone to not think of a pink elephant… and here we are thinking of pink elephants 😅

Also .. for the lying: give a chance to tell the truth… this may only work for slightly older kids but give it a try:
"Would you like to try that answer again with the truth?"
"Think about it, and let me know when you're ready..."
"I'm happy to wait."
"I'm not asking because I don't know. I'm asking because you have a choice to not lie. What choice are you going to make?”
“Thank you for telling the truth. Because you lied, and ignored my instructions, there will be a consequence”
FYI that last one… “there will be a consequence” comes in handy because you don’t need to be specific yet. Take a moment to think about it and then follow through later.
Thank you both so much! This is super helpful insight that I plan to try my best to remember in our next “spat”. Sometimes i feel like I’m having to high of an expectation, then other times it seems like she has no expectations… today i did enforce that id already found her water bottle twice in the span of an hour and it was missing again , i had her look around the room until she found it. Small things like this make her lose her mind crying, no matter how softly I say it , that also makes it hard and has unfortunately probably made me give in too many times and cause this behavior 😕
would you mind sharing some consequences you’ve seen work? I think I have a tendency to be too firm some times and too soft others and it doesn’t set a clear boundary ; but I feel guilty like I did too much sometimes if she gets sk upset. — also to be clear I’ve never hurt or hit my kids, o try not to yell but have been failing at that..
thank you so much. I appreciate all of this information. Tomorrow’s a new day, and i plan to apply a lot of this. I’m open to any other advice you think of - or anyone else reading this 💗
My husband and I have recently come abroad with our baby to meet his parents and family. We have been here 1 day and he has gone out drinking with his friends. I wouldn’t mind usually except he came home at 8:30pm drunk looking for a bottle of alcohol. His mum enables him and they were opening every cupboard imaginable and making so much noise that he woke our baby up. Our baby who hasn’t slept today due to the amount of visitors we have had. He then got his drink and left again. He left the room in such a mess as well. He didn’t even apologise for waking our child up showing he doesn’t care at all.
I’m fed up because we have come to see his family and introduce our baby. I don’t speak the language either so there’s a barrier. Most of them are telling me what to do (using arm gestures etc so we understand each other) and I’m lonely. It’s not a break or holiday for me. I enjoy myself more at home. I know while I’m here I’ll just be stuck inside at home every day and that isn’t what I want for me and my baby.
I feel like I want out of my marriage. Am I wrong with how I feel? x

Just reached 37 weeks today. Husband wants to go visit his parents because he won’t see them for a while (they’re not visiting and we are only going to see them in feb). He thinks it’s doable. I’m very hurt and don’t feel prioritized. What to say

I recently left my spouse due to dv and constant disrespect. I could feel him sucking the life out of me. I am 17 weeks pregnant with two other children. I have been a stay at home mom and he drained our bank account. Has anyone else ever gone through this? I wouldn’t wish this hell on anyone 😞

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone's son has experienced testicle/penis pain as a toddler? My 2 year old son has been commenting on his penis hurting at night but he hasn't seemed like he was in pain so I wondered if it was just discomfort with his diaper because he's showing signs of readiness for potty training.
The last day he has been showing signs that he's in pain and saying it hurts under his penis (assuming his testicles).
Wondering if I should take him in or if this is normal? My older son has never had any pain complaints but I know every child is different so it may be normal for some kids?
He's not circumcized if that matters and he's not having any other symptoms other than the pain

Putting this out there just to see if anyone can share some advice.
Since having my little boy I’ve experienced some anxiety about going outside, especially when it’s just me and him. I feel a lot more confident when my other half joins us and have been venturing out a lot more lately.
My mum lives on the other side of the country and has been visiting once a month since our baby was born. (Her visits stress me out every time they approach as she if very patronising, condescending and rude.)
For Novembers visit, she wants to bring me and my baby back with her to spend some time at her house. Also, main reason being, my grandma is over there in a home on account of being nearly 100 years old. My mum has been guilt tripping me saying she won’t get to meet my baby before she dies 😩
My worries about this:
-The drive is LONG and my son hates car seats, I’m panicking he’ll just cry the whole way.
-My other half can’t join us. He has work and can’t just leave everything for a few days to take the trip.
-I would not be able to leave my son with my mum and stepdad for a second. (Even to shower/nip to the loo) they’re both elderly and clueless. Plus they have two dogs that I don’t trust around the baby and I just don’t think they’d be vigilant enough watching them.
-My baby hasn’t been sleeping too well lately and it’ll be hard doing all day and all night alone if we have some bad ones.
-Before I had my baby I hated going there, I don’t get on particularly well with them and have never been close with my grandma, growing up I felt more like a nuisance to her.
My mum is aware of my anxious feelings and at first didn’t put pressure on me. But now she talks about the trip as if it’s a done deal, leaving me no excuse not to go. HELP 😭
She thinks mental health is a ‘load of rubbish’ and thinks people with anxiety/depression are attention seeking. So even though I have spoken to her about it, I can tell she just thinks I’m pathetic
I really feel like if I go, it will be a huge set back for my mental health which I’ve been working so hard to build back by taking small steps.

So I am a 38 year old female with 3 kids and one being autistic. My two youngest’s dad says he wants more kids with me. I told him no I don’t want anymore kids. I had so much complications with my last son had to have an emergency c section. I am still having so much pain and still have pain from the c-section after 6 years they sued up a piece of my uterus wall when they were closing me back up. So now he mad at me cause I said no I don’t want anymore kids
