Gestational diabetes test

Hello, had my first scan on tuesday, im 13 weeks today, due 23/4. They've asked me to go for a test in February. Is anyone else having this? Bmi is 23 but they said its due to the size of my first and how much weight I gained, I started at 60kg and went up to 90kg at my due date, and she was 9lb1.
Has anyone had gestational diabetes before, please could you explain what it entails as im sh*tting it 🤣

Lots of ppl have to. The test basically you have to fast the night before, go in early and get your blood taken and then you take this very very sweet drink (is gross imo) wait 3 hrs I think (some might be 1) and then they take your bloods again. And then you can eat/drink.

Most ppl have to do the test just based on their ethnicity. Doesn't mean you have GD

Thanks, I wasn't told to do it first time round so unsure as to why im having it this time. Could it just be because of the weight i put on first time round?

No worry - in the US it is a standard screen for everyone. Always better to be safe. I found the drink enjoyable :) this is just a precaution with your history. If you do develop GD, it is completely manageable, just always better to know for sure

I had gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy, identified at 36 weeks...the test didn't identify it but baby was measuring a little bigger than expected for me. In the end he was normal in weight born at 39 weeks.

The test involves fasting from the night before, blood test on the day, drinking a glucose drink and having a repeat blood test two hours later. Defo take a book or something for that wait. The results usually are given the day after or a few days later.

If they still suspect GD, they sometimes give a finger prick machine to test after each meal and monitor the reading. This is how they diagnosed mine the first time round.

I was tested early in my second pregnancy and again in the late stages of the second trimester, negative. No gestational diabetes.

I'm in the second trimester of my third pregnancy, I was tested a few weeks ago and then they will test me again at 20something weeks.

I hope this is helpful...good luck with the rest of your pregnancy 💪🏽

I was referred for a test in Jan, due to my ethnic background and also my maternal granddad had diabetes. Think it is a lengthy test, and best to have someone with you, but overall standard.

My first was almost 9.9, high end of normal. 9.1 is normal as far as I know.

Still they think I might have had GD, so I’m having 2 sugar tests, where you drink a sugary drink and take blood 2 hours later. I haven’t done any of them yet.
I’ll also get more scans to monitor baby, partially due to GD but would otherwise have it due to my age.

With my first, because they suspected GD, they suggested c- section, since the risk of shoulder dysplasia is much higher.
They suspected GD the day before the c-section, so not very well documented in my case.

Vagina!

Sorry to be graphic but I’m 7 weeks PP and for the first time I’ve looked down there with a mirror and I’m in shock!

It looks so different and I can practically see the inside of my vagina, has anyone has a similar experience?

Me and my partner are going to have sex tomorrow for the first time and now I’m worried.

I would love for my family to meet baby and they will only get a chance to meet baby if baby comes before half term so they can do the 6 hours drive down to us and book an air b&b. We got luckily with my first that she was born a week before Christmas so they got to meet her during the Christmas holidays!
Would appreciate some tips and advices!

Birthday parties on the same day .

My little girl who has just started reception has been invited to her friends birthday party ( this is her best friend ) I got the invitation on Tuesday and have already confirmed to the mum she will be going . I’ve just received another invitation from another little girl from her class and her party is on the same day at the same time so she won’t be able to attend but I don’t know what to say to the other mum as I don’t want to upset them or it to come across as rude .

How would you respond ?

How did everyone get the contractions regular after water is breaking?

Hey guys I’m 40+1 and my waters broke at 3:15 this morning and was given two options.
Option one: was to go home and wait 24 hours and see if my contractions become regular.
Option two: stay at the hospital and go on the drip.
I chose to go home as I am really hoping for a water birth which I know isn’t possible if I’m on the drip. How did everyone get their contractions to start becoming regular and how long did it take. I’ve tried the ball, walks, stair walking as well as just resting and letting my body do its thing. Currently in a warm bath as I have heard that helps.
Please any tips and advice is welcome.
