How do you deal with people feeling entitled towards your baby, particularly family members? I’m really struggling with my in-laws behaviour around this and it’s creating so much tension in my relationship with my partner.
For context, when I was pregnant we lived 5 minutes from them and 20 minutes from my family. My MIL would appear at our door at times unannounced, even when I was WFH). We’ve now moved exactly and are now the same distance from both our families.
When we told them I was very early pregnant, they quickly went out and bought things like bottle/sterilising kits without knowing if we had a preference for anything (although it was appreciated, it then meant we couldn’t go for something we preferred). Same with clothes, they bought a large amount in styles that are similar in style to their other granddaughter but nothing like any style that makes sense for us. They’ve also made comments about how much they need to buy for Christmas without asking us if there’s anything we do/don’t want/need, and making comments about how we don’t need to buy a lot but they’re “grandparents so we can buy whatever we like”.
I had a fall during pregnancy and had to wait around 36 hours to find out if baby was okay. We were both then messaged 5-6 times for a scan picture which we both felt was inappropriate. When my partner emphasised it was a scan for baby’s wellbeing and reminded his mum of boundaries, she lost her temper and said things like boundaries don’t matter because of her being his mum.
Since having my baby I’ve become really anxious around trusting them with the boundaries we feel comfortable with. We have watched them override boundaries with their other grandchild.
For example, one of our boundaries is that we have a no kissing rule (for everyone minus myself and my partner). My FIL suffers from cold sores and kisses his other grandchild on the lips which I worry has created an expectation for our daughter (which I will be very strict on NOT happening!). We also get messages demanding to have pictures of the baby sent most days (which also then get put into AI platforms 😖). They’ve also been pushy about having baby themselves which I do not feel comfortable with at this point in time.
It all came to a head a few weeks ago when my partner said we would see his parents a few hours later. We were then told no that doesn’t suit us and they were coming now. My partner reminded them that we have the baby and it needs to work for her/us. He then got a barrage of messages about how they only see her once a week (this is at a minimum and they’ve often seen her more than this), about how my parents will see her more and how now we have moved, they knew they wouldn’t see us, and how they’re grandparents so they should be able to turn up to ours whenever they like.
I feel it’s now planted a seed in my partners head about the grandparents needing to have equal time, despite my parents never putting pressure on us to see them or ever feeling like our boundaries are disrespected. This has also now created situations where my partner will find problems with my parents, despite having a great relationship with them. My MIL does not acknowledge or apologise for her behaviour which I feel makes me distance myself from her as I struggle with how she behaves.
I also have had situations where I’ve been holding my baby and my FIL has come and taken her out my hands without asking to “give mum a break”, as well as asked me to hand her back over to my MIL (after she’d already had her for a period of time) so that “she’d be happy with how much time she’d got with her”.
Am I ridiculous for feeling like they are just ruining my postpartum experience and potentially ruining my relationship? With my own family I know I can say something and it is listened to, whereas my partner doesn’t have that dynamic with his parents. I want to have a good relationship with them but I feel like we are expected to do things in a way that will keep them happy rather than having the opportunity to learn how to be parents ourselves.

Oh my god… this is crazy, I genuinely could have written this myself. Every single point near enough. This happened to me 4 years ago and because my partner at the time didn’t take control of the situation, it got worse and worse. I inevitably fell out of love with him because he didn’t respect me enough to put his mum & dad in place. It was the reason we split up.
Don’t ever change your boundaries to suit other people when it comes to your child. It’s your partners family and HE needs to take control if he has any respect for you and your child. If he doesn’t, I can almost guarantee your relationship won’t last, resentment and anger will build up towards him and you won’t be able to stay in love.
I started to think, oh I’ll just let them kiss my baby, I’ll just let them come around unannounced, I’ll just let them blah blah blah… I look back and think what on earth was I doing. For the sake of your child your partner needs to nip this in the bud, asap.

Wow, just reading this makes me so annoyed on your in-laws on your behalf!!! They are very full on and just don't understand that the world does not evolve around them.
Maybe go away as a family with just you, your husband and baby for a couple of days and step away from it all. Enjoy family time and then sit down and talk through it with your husband and write down a list of things that are acceptable and not in YOUR house and for YOUR family. If you're both on the same page and a team, dealing with the in-laws will be easier. Stand your ground mumma, it's your baby and your family 💕

I agree with the comment above, this definitely needs re-addressing and re-affirming with your partner before it causes resentment. That sounds really difficult and almost suffocating, with no regard or respect for you and your boundaries. It easy to allow these to slip when it involves people we love, but then you have to live with the love you have sacrificed from yourself. Putting your needs first is what your child needs the most, when you feel happy, safe and secure so will she and sounds like that's not the case when they around. I wish you all the best in a healthy happy resolve 💛
Husband cheated what should I do ?
I caught him ,I got in contact with the girl and asked some questions that was important for me to know yes they had sex she was his GF since may of this year ,they did go out on a date mind you I had our first baby in July I find this information out at the end of September. He is telling not to tell no one because he is worry about his image ,but like. I don’t care because I am going through postpartum by self and depression has kicked in The excuse he gave has angered me and it lives rent free in my head but my daughter is the reason I get up because she deserves the best from her mom I cry in the shower or when she is sleep .I try to be strong because I only breast feed and all of this tanks my milk supply.its to much to say and one post i’m going through alone isn’t any better

My partner sees his son from his previous marriage the majority of the time. He takes him on days out. Only two weekend days are for our shared son and I. He says it's because he doesn't see his older son during the work week. But during the work week, our shared son is not at home and we just do the bed time routine. He has to commute back and forth to pick up his first son and often is tired for us but he does force himself to do things with us even if it tires him.
To be fair He does invite us to go with them but his son often snatches toys from kids, recently he kicked my toddler who went flying backwards. I don't think he is a good influence on our son but his dad doesn't want to discipline him because he feels guilty and his mother says that saying no to their son is bad. I am limiting time with them now which now puts the childcare of my son with me for the majority of the weekend. Do you think two days is sufficient for our shared son?

I didn’t sleep well last night because my daughter is teething and she was up all night. This morning after everyone was up I asked my husband to take the kids so I can get some sleep. My son is potty training he needed to pee he ran to the toilet but didn’t reach in time so he peed on the bathroom floor (this was about an hour after I asked my husband to watch them). I heard my son go to his dad who was watching tv and said daddy I peed on the floor my husband responded “go to your mom tell her to wash and change you”. My son did exactly that I got up and bath him and changed him after that I got ready and went to do grocery thinking that my husband cleaned the pee on the bathroom floor down stairs(we have two bathrooms). When I came back from doing grocery I went into the bathroom and saw the floor was covered with pee. I went to him who was still seating watching tv and asked him why didn’t you clean the pee off the floor he responded ”oh you didn’t do that”

Do you hit/spank your kids if they don’t listen or do something wrong? According to the Bible you are supposed to. I grew up in a home that did believe in whoopings and never thought I would hit my kids. I hear some people don’t but what do you do when your kids don’t listen? My boys don’t listen AT ALL! I’m a sahm.

For those with children at school what working hours do you do? How do you make it work?
